Between my bad memory and the feeling I may want to stay in touch with you all while I am away, I thought this would be a good place to let you (and remember) all about my awesome (I hope) adventure!

Well, since this will be another adventure with outcomes optimistically promising, I thought I would blog about Dave and I bringing Ping, our little Thai pup home from Thailand to live happily ever after with us and our little pack of animals. After our beloved Ava passed away this past January, Dave and Sea-B and I were all just so sad. She was such a light in our lives and we still miss her every day. Not that Eros didn't miss her presence, he put out a search party for at least a week after she was gone. He would march around the yard, sniffing and looking, come back inside and an hour later, go look again. Then after she didn't turn up, he called off the search and went back to his normal routine. Sea-B ... read more

Wednesday Hanging by the pool all day, we then went down the mountain at sunset, it was the biggest orange sun sinking into the ocean, I was hoping we'd make it to the bottom so I could capture it, but by the time we got to the beach it was gone. We sat and had wine and dinner and laughed as we watched to resorts performers. Drank too much wine, went to bed... Tomorrow, another lazy pool day. Thursday Having some stomach issues so I am happy to be poolside for the day, reading my book, taking in the incredible views and hot breezy weather. Today we relaxed by the infinity pool again , amazing views of the resort and the Andaman sea. The sea is so close in color to the sky that you cannot ... read more

We both awoke with stomach distress... And we are going to the Phi Phi islands sweet Jesus let's hope it doesn't turn into the Poo Poo islands! We slammed xbreakfast and Imodium and Dramamine and cautiously head to the pier. We hop on the boat and I scan for a bathroom.... I can't confirm. Worry worry ,worry. What will they do with us if we have an attack of diarrhea? Make us dive off the boat? Possible scenarios go through my head, none good. I am happy to report that all medications did the trick and we were good to go... Or not go as the case may be. We drove across the water for about an hour until we reached a snorkeling site. We all jumped out, about 13 people, the water clear, warm, beautiful ... read more

Awake before 5am wandering around the room in the dark, coffee? Instant, no Bueno... Went out on our killer balcony, dark, afraid a viper (our friends saw one in the road in Chaing Mai) has climbed up and is waiting to attack... I gave Dave until almost 6am then I had to get up. We went up the mountain via foot, looking for the place we are to get breakfast and more importantly coffee, and are blown away by the views from here! There is an infinity pool that seems to empty over the cliff the building is built into, a huge open air deck with big queen sized lounging mats. There is a huge buffet, and awesome, non instant coffee. We have decided to park here for the day. Layed around like slugs today, lounging, ... read more

Waiting for our ride to the airport, we saw our friends who were in the jungle! They said they did get lost and hiked and hiked up steep trails (um with elephants) and finally arrived at elephant heaven. Acres and acres of beautiful mountains and valleys of lush vegetation, perfect for elephant retirement. They said totally worth it. I was so glad to hear about their trip. As we prepared to leave,I can't help be so happy and proud that Dave took a week out of his vacation to take his gypsy wife half way around the world to scoop elephant poop, and prepare meals and work in the oppressive sun and go help out the Thai kids at the school along side me.aling with enjoying a vegetarian diet for the week (difficult for my carnivore ... read more

Last full day at the park, woke to breakfast and morning poo scooping around the park, it has been quite a heat wave here, leaving everyone a bit lethargic. We then went and spent time with our new little pup ( I think his name is Ping) we walked him and showed him off, everyone loves him. He will be a good fit I think. Crazy, once we decided to adopt him it became very hard to turn him back over to the kennel people, knowing he has to spend the next month there. We promised him we would see him again soon. After lunch we grabbed our inner tubes and went floating down the Mae Tang river. We had our mandatory Chang beer in the big dark green bottle, but unfortunately I tipped out of ... read more

Friday Such an awesome day! We sat early morning having cold coffee and watching the elephants start there day. Usually they move very slowly (except the baby) not in a. Rush, enjoying their retirement .. This morniNg was different! We heard a angered trumpeting across the field and saw a big mad lady running fast toward a bunch of water buffalo that had obviously offended. The eles chased the buffalo, the mahouts chased the eles, the dogs followed along thrilled with the excitement! All settled down in a matter of minutes but it was quite thrilling to watch! We signed up to go teach the children at the local school English in the morning. I had taken pictures of the kids two years ago when I was here and wavered on wether to bring copies of ... read more

Thursday This morning we went for an elephant walk through the park. We learned about the different elephants and had a nice opportunity to take pictures. Highlight being one little ( in comparison ) boy ele who I think was named Navan, he was very interested in our group and came bounding over, we were told to steer clear since this baby was probably 1000lbs. His mahout had taught him how to sit up and bring his trunk over his head ( all without force or threat of punishment ) it was super cute watching him play in the mud, run around and just be a happy little elephant. He had his mother and about three nannies looking after him. He had those ladies on their toes and was like a busy three year old. Running ... read more

Wednesday morning walking down to the main building where coffee and breakfast await, accompanied by the cutest of Thai dogs that take it apon themselves to escort you everywhere with a wagging tail and big Thai dog smile. There are hundreds of butterflies dancing in and around the trees making it a magical walk down the dirt road. One of those moments I will tell you, I really tried to put it in the permanent memory bank for later use while standing in line at the dmv . Our job this morning is to prepare the food for the elephants. It is a good job today! Hanging in the kitchen, out of the oppressive heat, washing watermelon and squash and chopping them up for the elephant. The old ladies with no teeth eat rice and banana ... read more

hell! We cleaned all the elephant houses out, and were visited by two elephants who came over to say hello. We got to pet them and they seemed happy to hang out with us for a little love and a photo op. Not long after the big ladies moved along, Jodi, a very passionate elephant advocate who has been at the elephant park for years came to our group. She is a tiny redhead from the northeast who moved to Thailand years ago. She is always covered from head to toe in long sleeves, pants and a hat with a huge brim and a flap that covers her neck as well. Somehow even though you can't see her, you know it's her every time. She gathered our group to tell us that Lek (the woman running ... read more
