We got to go to a local school today. They had all these stations set up, bracelet making, Thai massage, traditional dance and a little refreshment hut. I spoke to a teacher for a while and he told me there are five different tribes of children who attend. Some live in the mountains and the bus them in from Monday to Friday to go to school and stay in dorms. They teach them life skills so they can have a job when they are done with school. Having us there helps them practice dealing with foreigners. This afternoon after watching the elephants bathe in the river (I could never grow tired of that) I held a yoga class on the skywalk overlooking the beautiful property. We did a gentle relaxing class and the breeze was gently ... read more

6am impromptu yoga watching the sun rise, then spent the morning cleaning and cutting pumpkins and watermelon for elephant lunch, they steam squash for the old elephant who can't chew so well anymore. There is a family here that have taken there two kids on the road (to boys,8 and 10 for a year of traveling the world. How cool is that? There is a guy here from Sweden who has never left his home town, and after planning this for years, came to elephant nature park, pretty brave and cool. I also met this tough New York City cop lady who showed up with her heavy NYC accent and her" life is crap "tee shirt ... Jen, after talking with her, she has never traveled either, came alone, lied to her parents (she's 40) and ... read more

My roommate mellisa and I woke up at 6am and took our cameras and sat out overlooking the property, with the mountains in the background. We waited for the sunrise, and had coffee it was a beautiful way to start the day. We worked in the morning shoveling poop,37 elephants make a whole lot! It wasn't a bad job and we actually got done pretty quickly. I got to feed them from our observation platform, there trunks are so incredibly strong and my elephant liked watermelon and pumpkins and bananas. After that I went to a different part of the sanctuary, where all the dogs are, all 400, rescued from the flood in 2011 and also others that get dumped off. They need attention from people and volunteering with the dogs apparently is a pretty hard ... read more

Last night I was feeling like I was getting sick, lost my voice and afraid of going to bed too early do to my 3am wakes lately. So I decided to go to Sunday market. The nice guy Nicky, at the desk called me a. Tuk tuk and she picked me up and we raced around in this cross between A golf cart and motorcycle. She laughed the whole way, I don't know what she was talking about but she was sure having fun! I walked around for a couple of hours, it was so jammed! And played the fun game, "which tuk, tuk driver is the pyco murderer?" Guess what? I won, and picked an old Thai guy that I sized up and was pretty sure I could take if I had to.Full night sleep, ... read more

Well, after waking up, for the day at 3am to the sound of roosters-dogs and planes, followed up by a 7am presidential speach and song about, well I am not really sure. It was kindof a rough start. Took a sunrise bath in my ceiling less bathroom and I was off and running. I had breakfast and was promptly picked up at 8am for my day of Thai cooking classes. The man who picked me up was quite nice and spoke some English. I asked him about the trouble in Bangkok, with the rioting and political upheaval and he started talking all about the upcoming erection, that's right erection (if you have not figured it out this was in Lui of the upcoming ELECTION. He must have said erection 40 times. It was sad I had ... read more

So I forgot to mention, while we were at Tyne Saturday market, walking around, shopping and haggling for trinkets to bring back, suddenly music came from a speaker attached to a building and everyone stopped in there tracks and looked, everyone, still. I think it was the national anthem. You could have gone screaming down the road like a banshee and no one would have moved a muscle. Then as soon as it ended, the streets came alive again! Also, it's Chinese new year so there were children dressed up with hitherto big colorful dragon running through the streets.... read more

Finally got a great nights sleep last night, hurray! Woke up in time to have breakfast and rush off to the spa lady who promised me I would look 10 years tougher with the facial she was going to give me. It was hot, it was cold, it was scratchy and smooth, smelled good and a little not so good. In the end ten years younger might be a stretch, but maybe a couple of years. I decided today is the day I venture out and enlisted the young guy at the redemption desk to help me make an exit stradegy. "ok, go here cost 200 bhat then go here 100 baht, "ill call you a red truck" he said. So I pulled on my big girl pants and grabbed my camera and went to wait ... read more

Hands down my longest travel days ever! I arrived last night at around midnight, popped a sleeping pill, stuffed earplugs in and hoped for at least 10 hours of sleep, well I got 6 but feel great! The airport was interesting. If you want to make fast friends hang out at the cell phone charging station! with a spare charger! I saw this young guy running around trying to stick his Korean plug into every outlet he could find. I called join over and hooked him up. He was very grateful and gifted me with a half a stack of Pringles potato chips (airport booty!) then a young girl came up and asked me if she could use my plug, and we started rot chat. She was going home to Laos cause her mother died 3days ... read more

Well, after a wink of sleep, I gave up and thought at least I have time for a nice lonnng shower, it was only 2:30am. Well, no time to get on Thai time like the present. I have zipped my bag up (symbolizing no further costume changes) and printed out my first boarding pass! I was lying in bed trying to think of anything I missed……"are they going to ask me for proof of my shots?" well, I don't have proof, so here's hoping I don't get turned back at the border. Hopefully my blog will become significantly more exciting, hah…… I was thinking The times in my life when I just went with a nagging idea (costa rica with Tim, yoga month at the ashram) it has never been anything liked I had imagined it ... read more

First entry for my trip. Seeing how this blog world works and making sure I have it figured out. Today I spray my clothes with bug spray, start packing, charge all my camera batteries, and wonder did I really need 5 books and do I really enjoy a real book to my ereader enough to lug 5 books half way around the world? I spent half the night worrying about the smallest threatthat I can barly see or identify (the dengue fever bug) to the largest, (hanging out with elephants with free will) and calculating a 12 hour time change trying to figure out how to combat that. I have not traveled much on my own, and really have gone totally by gut and intuition that there is a reason I was swept away in the ... read more
