The drive out of Boggy Hole was abit rougher than the drive in but we managed it with no issues. We continued onto Kings Creek. This is a camp ground established by one of the stations about 15 ks away from Kings Canyon. We set up here and planned to go into Kings Canyon the next day. We woke up the next day and boy was it cold! The wind was blowing an absolute gale, it was overcast and freeeeeeeeezing! We were wondering if we should do the walk today but we had already lost a few days with the clutch so we didn't really want to lose anymore. So the decision was made to go out to the canyon and do the walk. So glad that we did. The initial walk up the front of ... read more

We left Alice Springs and headed off to Palm Valley. Palm Valley is approx 160ks outside of Alice Springs. It took us roughly 3 hrs to get there as it involved a 4wd track to get down to it. The track was great. A few challenging parts but nothing too serious. We camped in the National Park. Unfortunately we were forced to camp in the overflow section as it was surprisingly quite crowded. Talk about close camping, we could've reached out and stroked dad's head from our bed to help him get to sleep if he needed it! Haha Palm Valley is ohhhh my god gorgeous! It is like an oasis in a harsh environment full of tall palm trees, cycads and again beautiful rock formations. The drive into Palm Valley ( the camping was just ... read more

We arrived at Alice Springs dirty, dusty, smelly and dying for a shower! Nine days since our last one! Mum and dad were amazed at how much bigger Alice Springs had become since they were last here. The Big 4 was as you would expect - wonderful with fantastic resources, but boy you sure do pay for it! The visitor information centre was the first stop and we made our plans for the next four days we were here. On the list was Redbank Gorge, Ormiston Gorge, Standley Chasm, Ochre Pits, Simpsons Gap just to start with. day one: Redbank Gorge. Redbank Gorge is a beautiful place. We did a walk up around the gorge and through the creek bed. It was a really nice walk and we were lucky enough to see a dingo drinking ... read more

We said goodbye to The Diamantina National Park and continued the journey west towards Alice Springs. From diamantina we travelled to Tobermorey on the Northern Territory Border. Mum seemed to think she might be able to get some hot chips at Tobermorey - mum and her hot chips, she loves them! We all agreed that she was placing far too much faith in this little spot on the map but mum felt considering it was written in bold on the map that surely this little town would have hot chips. We reminded her several times that it is called Tobermorey STATION but still she kept the faith, even saying she might get a facial while we were there! On our way to Tobermorey Station we pulled into Boulia for petrol and a few supplies. What a ... read more

We have made it to Alice Springs! Haven't put up a blog entry before now as we have had no reception for the first week and a half. The journey so far........... Gav, myself and the kids left home and put in a full days driving and made it to The Cooladdi Roadhouse, about 80kms east of Quilpie. We free camped at the roadhouse and boy was it cold! Luckily we were able to have a fire but even with the fire it was bitterly cold. The kids couldn't get into bed quick enough as they have new thermal sleeping bags and were very excited to get into them, even though it was still daylight they kept asking if they could go to bed! Wish they were that keen to go to bed at home! Even ... read more

Only five days until we leave! Everyone is very excited and looking forward to a great trip. Mum and dad left today and the plan is to meet them at Windorah Next Monday. Gav has been busy organising the new fishing rod box he has organised for the trailer and I have been busy doing the last minute food shopping. Mum and dad came up today and we all pitched in to give dad abit of a hair cut before they left. They plan on staying at Roma and slowly making their way to Windorah where we will meet. We stayed there when we went out to Birdsville and did the Birsdsville track. There is a great free camp spot by the Cooper Creek. Can't wait to catch up with them again. It made the excitement ... read more

Six weeks until we leave on our next trip! Three months on the road! House sitter is organised and everyone, especially the kids, are getting very excited! This trip will take us into Central Australia. We are planning on getting there via the plenty highway, through Alice Springs and into Ulluru. From Ulluru we are heading due west and picking up the Canning Stock Route. We will then follow the Canning up into Halls Creek, staying at Wolf Creek (ohhhh scary lol). From here we go into Broome, then of course up The Gibb River Road into the Kimberley's. We are going all the way into Kalumburu. Then heading home through kunnanuru, Katherine and stopping off in Doomadgee to see our daughter who has been teaching there for the last two years. Hard to believe there ... read more
