We rested in Kununurru for four nights and then made our way down to The Bungle Bungles. The road into The Bungles was absolutely horrendous and I would say hands down the worst corregations we have experienced this whole trip. It took us two hours of driving over bumpy, rocky, winding road just to get into The Bungle Bungles national Park. We are all feeling very over bloody corregations! We had planned to stay three nights at The Bungles before heading down to the Wolfe Creek meteor crater national Park. Day one we went for a walk through the Bungles that was 5.2 klm long. It was hot! So hot! So very very hot! We started the walk at 8am because we expected it to be hot but omg it was just sooo hot. Mum and ... read more

The next day we set off in the direction of Kalumburu. We stopped off on the way to look at some aboriginal rock art and arrived at Kalumburu late in the afternoon. The road into Kalumburu was quite rocky and rough in parts however, the Carson River was just a puddle! This is the main water crossing we were concerned about! Again the corregations were horrendous! I'm half expecting bits and pieces to just start dropping off the car as we go - everything is shaking so much I have visions of like In The cartoons where the car stops, everything falls off and the driver is left just holding a steering wheel! Haha. Coming to Kalumburu is something that I have been looking forward to, especially coming with mum and dad. It is a community ... read more

We arrived late at Mitchell Falls camp ground. The road in was pretty rough with lots more corregations. The next day we got up early to set off on the walk into Mitchell Falls. It took us an hour and a half and at one point we were hopelessly lost, even with the map, we just couldn't find the markers showing us where the track continues! I think we spent about twenty minutes searching before we finally found it!! The walk into the falls was definitely worth the effort. The falls are just beautiful. When we first arrived mum stayed up the top of the falls because she was nervous about crossing over the rapids above the waterfall to get to the front side of the falls. However, when we got around there Gav went back ... read more

The next day we were up early and set off for Manning Gorge. On the way we stopped off at the Imintji Communnity Store for morning tea. They claim to have everything and they say they are an oasis with the lot. Well they arnt lying! They do have everything and they are a oasis with the lot! Haha mum and dad enjoyed a cappuccino with a homemade apple pie, cream and ice ream. Gav and I had a homemade sausage roll and the kids hot chips. It was really really yummy and a great place out in the middle of nowhere! From here we continued the journey to Manning Gorge. The camp area was really great providing a much needed shower (we haven't had many showers this trip!) and proper toilets (hooray we haven't had ... read more

We spent the first night at a great free camp spot on the side of the road. Quiet spot, nice fire, good feed, in the company of people you love, a million stars shining over head, I don't think it gets much better than this! Next day we were up early and headed down to Tunnel Creek. From Geike Gorge we travelled around to Tunnel Creek. This is a spot that the kids were really looking forward to as it involved walking through a cave/tunnel approx 750 metres long. The story behind Tunnel Creek is interesting and made the journey into the Tunnel system even more significant. The cave was used as a hide out during the late 1890s by indigenous freedom fighter Jandumurra. Jandamurra is known to some as a hero and to others as an ... read more

What a day!! We woke up early to meet the bus to the aerodrome at 8.15. None of the kids have ever flown on a plane before so they were VERY excited. I wasn't really nervous until we stepped out on the Tarmac and it dawned on me that the last time I was in a plane this small was about 34 years ago! Olivia sat with me and held my hand very tightly as we took off but she soon relaxed and was amazed by the scenery below us as we all were. It was just beautiful looking over the mudflats surrounding Derby. We had been in the air for about ten minutes when I turned around to look at jack and Luke. OMG! Jack was grey and didn't look well at all. I thought ... read more

Broome - I sooo could live here! What a beautiful spot it is. We spent the first day by doing some much needed shopping. Mum, Olivia and I took off down to Coles to restock and then into the butcher for more meat supplies. In the afternoon Gav, myself and the kids explored around Broome while mum and dad went to the bank to sort out a card of mums that was being sent there for her. They say that Cable Beach is amongst the top five beaches in the world and I can understand why. It is absolutely beautiful. The water is beautiful. The sand is beautiful, everything is just beautiful! We followed a dirt track right around the headland to the light house and got out to have abit of an explore. Broome is ... read more

From Port Hedland we travelled north for approx 120 Kilm's and stopped at a place called Cape Keraudren. This is a council run camping spot right on the beach. It provides toilets and that's about it. As we were coming over the ridge the water came into sight and it was absolutely beautiful. I have never seen water so blue! It was deep blue, light blue and aqua almost in strips like a painting and something I have only ever seen in pictures or postcards from some exotic destination! On the way in we had noticed a strange noise coming from the trailer ( omg! Not again!!!!!) Mum and dad had a bit of a laugh watching me jogging beside the trailer to try and work out where the noise was coming from while Gav drove ... read more

We said goodbye to the Olga's and headed down another dusty dirt track towards the west australian border. The maps were out and we realised that we were driving through aboriginal land. Our permits were in place but there was nowhere on the map to camp! Ohhh well we decided to just drive and hope we find somewhere along a dry river bed or something....... Now the real adventure begins!! We were all excited to be heading into the desert and in the direction of the canning stock route! Woooohoooo!! The road out of The Olga's was really good until about 100klms down the road when it was obvious the grader had stopped and the corregations were dreadful! The countryside slowly began to change from the flat, Barron land surrounding Uluru and the Olga's to becoming ... read more

The excitement as we were getting closer to Uluru was mounting. Not only were the kids excited to see the rock so were Gav and I! As we drew closer to Curtain Springs Station we noticed a big rock in the distance, mum and dad had warned us not to be fooled, it looked like Ulluru but it was in fact Mt Connor. They were right - it did look like Uluru and the kids were very excited when they also saw it off in the distance but we soon settled them down and explained that it wasn't Uluru and in fact Uluru was much much bigger. All three of the kids found this very hard to believe. We pulled into Curtain Springs for some gas for the gas bottles, a break and a sticky beak. ... read more
