Geo: 16.3302, -86.5194Last night we sailed around Punta Oeste, the south-western most tip of the Isla de Roatan. Here we are in Roatan, Honduras, a place that has always sounded so exotic to me. Because Jeff and I have never been here before we signed up with Princess to do a snorkeling tour; it leaves around 9:30 so we actually had to set an alarm to get up in time for a bite of breakfast before heading ashore. We packed our snorkeling gear and towels, etc. last night so we wouldn't have to mess with it this morning. The tour meets at the end of the pier so we meet up with our group and are delighted to discover that a mother/son duo (Ann and Brian) we've interacted with several times are amongst them. Geo: 20.4286, -86.8792Last night we sailed a south-easterly course across the Gulf of Mexico to the northern coastline of the Yucatan Peninsula then a south-westerly course across the Caribbean Sea to the Isla of Cozumel. Because we were delayed leaving Houston, we are about an hour behind schedule arriving here. No matter to us. Our first port of call is a place we've visited before and are comfortable doing our own thing. We had a leisurely breakfast, packed up our snorkeling gear, grabbed a couple of extra pool towels and walked ashore. A cab ride later, and less than 5 miles from the ship, we were at Chankanaab "Adventure Beach Park". It is actually a state park with a lot of stuff to do. There is a sea lion show and education area, a crocodile exhibit ... read more

Geo: 29.7605, -95.3698Lazy day...no plans today except to relax and enjoy our first full day at sea. After a leisurely breakfast we went by the ship's library to pick up the daily SuDuKo puzzle and for me to get a novel. Decided we should get some exercise and walked around the Promenade Deck for 90 minutes - a little over five miles. We sure were hot and sweaty when we were done; and though we had eaten breakfast only two hours earlier we headed up to theCafe Caribe for the special sushi lunch. Delicious! We went back our cabin and lazed around, sat on the deck and read. Jeff napped and I finished the Kindle novel I had started yesterday. This is formal night and for this cruise we purposefully did not bring any formal clothes. ... read more

Geo: 29.7605, -95.3698Jeff woke me at 7:50 this morning. "I have something to show you" he said. I replied "This had better be good..." I tried not to sound threatening. He held out his IPad and I saw that our cruise ship, the Emerald Princess, was in port and it was sunny out. Yippee! Okay, true confessions time. My husband has a minor obsessive streak, and he has the Port of Houston, Port of Ft Lauderdale and the Port of Miami webcams bookmarked on his iPad. He enjoys watching the cruise ships sail in and out of port and has, occasionally, hooked his iPad up to our TV so we can watch on the big screen. I admit it. I enjoy watching the ships as well. A couple of weeks ago he was monitoring this very ... read more

Geo: 29.6483, -95.0203Today was our scheduled relaxing day and we've done it right! Lounged around in bed, reading and talking, until 10:45. Yes, we missed our free breakfast, but we had planned ahead. When we finally got up we shared a bagel with peanut butter, some watermelon, grapes and yogurt. It rained all day...seriously rained to the point that I got a NWS alert on my phone warning of flooding. Jeff went out to purchase some contraband to sneak onto the boat...wine and gin.Right after he returned the deluge began. Holy cow! We stood at the window and watched the rain.By now it's 3:30 and we have been almost completely non-productive. Laziness doesn't suit us very well; we headed for the workout room. The rain was messing up the satellite signal to the TV in the ... read more

Geo: 29.7605, -95.3698My brain is tired. Today we spent 7 hours at the Johnson Space Center and now my brain is tired. I won't even attempt to describe all we did and all we learned but I assure you - it was an interesting, educational and inspirational day! After walking past the space shuttle, the REAL space shuttle (!) and realizing Jeff had forgotten to put the recharged battery back into the camera (oops), we entered the building.Yikes! The noise level was incredible - there were kids everywhere - ah...Spring Break! This area was definitely geared to children - the brightly colored "Angry Birds" marquee was one of the clues that drew me to this conclusion...that and the Ripley's Believe It or Not" area.I admit to being a little concerned about our day, but it was great. We ... read more

Geo: 29.2953, -94.8079What a surprisingly delightful day! Not that I'm truly surprised we had fun because we always do, but surprised because it was an unusual sort of day and everything was fun.We began by getting up just in time for our free Holiday Inn Express breakfast - why does breakfast have to end so early - 9:30am? Sheesh, but it got us up and moving.Today we drove to Galveston, TX with a couple of ideas in mind. We arrived at the Texas Maritime Museum area roughly four minutes before one of their scheduled "Harbor Tour/Dolphin Watching" tours. Great timing! We got on the boat and went up to the top deck. Soon we were trailing a shrimper and sure enough there were dolphins. I guess they like what gets caught up in the nets. After ... read more

Geo: 29.6567, -95.0284Last night in Loveland, Jeff and I were frantically cooking all the veggies in the refrigerator. 2 pounds of spinach steamed, 12 cups of red lentil carrot soup made, 3 pounds of potatoes peeled and mashed - all destined for our freezer. Trash taken to the curb, cat boxes cleaned, laundry done and hung up, dishwasher run. Mission accomplished! We were up later than we had intended to be and knew 6am would arrive MUCH too soon. Our good friend, Tom, rang the doorbell at exactly 7:15, about the time I was thinking of drying my hair. Poor Tom has a terrible cold but he remained good humor as Jeff and I made coffee, ate breakfast and finally Jeff went into the crawl space to turn off the water. I guess it's apparent that we didn't ... read more

Geo: 34.1472, -118.144Hi again, Actually, There isn't a lot to tell you about today other than it was a great day! We got up semi-early and enjoyed our free hotel breakfast. Then we donned our special wristbands, made sure we had our tickets, hopped in the car and drove about a mile to the shuttle bus that would take us to our final Rose Parade event.Today is the post-parade viewing of the floats. And, wow, you really can get up close. It was very crowded but since the floats were spread over 2 miles you could usually wiggle into a close photo position.Every float had a little barricade around it and was manned by a "white suitor" The folks in white suits are the parade volunteers and they were everywhere these past three days. Today they ... read more

Geo: 34.1472, -118.144Rose Parade day!As expected our alarm went off at 5am, and as expected we hit the snooze button twice before finally muddling ourselves out of bed and into clothes. Lots of clothes. Layers of clothes. The low 30s isn't that cold, especially if you're moving, but we are going to be sitting for hours.Dressed in my outdoor jacket over a fleece jacket over a long-sleeved t-shirt over a turtleneck my upper body was thoroughly encased and almost immobilized. Jeans and wool socks completed my ensemble. Glasses, sunglasses, hats, scarves, gloves? Ready to go!The hotel, which offers a free breakfast beginning at 6:30am also has free coffee 24 hours a day, so we headed down to the lobby to fill up our thermal coffee cups. Whoa! Look at all the people!! Looks like the hotel ... read more
