Birding
Sounds like a great birding day. You got 3 I haven't seen. Always exciting to get a life bird - no matter what country you're in.
9th March 2014

You may not know I'm a bird maniac. That settles it...I'm going there!!

Fireworks on Roger's Last Night

Adios Roger
On your own now! What a great way to learn the ropes fast, with Roger's help. Great timing and great luck you had.

You are beginning to help us develop our plans for next winter. This does look perfect. We won\'t take the trailer, either. Canadians probably mt bike more than Americans, ALL of our friends up here mt bike and my skill level has gone from pretty intermediate, to something below advanced. It\'s what we do up here in the summer (or any time it isn\'t snowing!) Really enjoy reading this, esp. as I sit here watching it snow! Adios

Mountain biking
If you come to this part of the world and want to bike, you should come earlier like in January. Joe thought it was very hot on the bike trip. I wouldn't bring your trailer either, and I'd recommend flying over driving for sure. We'd have a lot of do's and don'ts for you.

Those two guys are animals!
I'm not surprised they went on that bike ride, right up their alley. I bet you hate to see Roger leave but it's so nice he could get you going there.

Roger
Yes, we will hate to see our playmate/partymate leave tomorrow. We may actually get to see him again in AZ, not sure about that. He was so helpful and so much fun, of course. At least now we know how to get around and I'm guessing Joe will keep playing horseshoes.

Roger

And how did you spend the day while they biked?
Are you learning some drink and food specialities to bring back home?
5th March 2014
Roger

Food and drink
Yes, we are learning some new stuff. I may even take a cooking class one day. One thing we like is that here they mix mayonnaise with some of those canned chipotles and use it as a dip for tortilla chips or even on veggies. I think it would be good in a chicken sandwich. Crepes are in all the cafés so maybe I'll make more of those from now on, they really aren't that hard. They put cinnamon in the piña coladas...nice.

Wasted Away in Margaritaville!!! Or Pina Coladaville!!
We are loving your trip to Mexico.....looks perfect! You must be getting very relaxed. Wish we were there. Maybe next year. Not much going on here but it did rain a little the other day. Looks like MB &B may be your neighbors if things work out with the bank and the Banks. Have fun and enjoy the rest of the trip. J&D

Wish you were here
This is an interesting place, that's for sure. Not bored yet,but still have 16 more days here. We'll be happy if the Banks are our new neighbors.

We are jealous
We just picked up your blogs and of course love them, especially your commentary. The guacamole sounds wonderful, in fact all the food does. Our trip to Australia was cancelled at the last minute due to major health issues in Bob Utley's family. We were saddened but understood. Now, we wish we down there with you (if invited). Hello to Roger. Where is Connie? Keep your blogs coming. More later. Bob and Carol

Thanks, Tom
You know I don't expect people to actually read these blogs, so it's nice to get your comment.

the baby
Bet you spent time looking at and enjoying the baby. And of course we'll hear the bolsa story sometime?
28th February 2014

Baby and bolsa
You are right about the baby in the hammock, what a sweetie he was. I think the bolsa (purse) story was one of those "you had to be there" things and maybe even have a drink or two. Well, you know how women are always losing things in their purses? Roger has this tiny purse that couldn't be bigger than half a deck of cards...and one might he was cussing up a storm because he couldn't find the key to his house complaining it was lost in the bolsa. I just thought it funny that he could lose a key in something so small. It was in there all the time, of course.

You're making this look very enticing! Thanks for the response. I think there may be places less savory than others. Like you said, be aware and be smart. These photos could certainly induce a feeling of well being! Have fun.
27th February 2014

Nice!
Looks like more fun in the sun. Pina coladas look delicious. I'll have to remember to ask Roger about the bolsa when he gets back. Hi to all.
26th February 2014

Nice!
We are really digging watching you two (and your new Canadian friends) enjoying southern Mexico. Keep writing and sending those pictures!

Mark and I have friends that spend October thru January in the Baja. They are trying to get us to do that with them, but I have a bit of fear (reading too many scary articles on Mexico). After reading your blogs and looking at your pix, I might be ready to take it on. I don't want to do it in the trailer, though, and that is what they do. What do you think of that? Continue to have fun, and beware of hazards in the street. We were walking to the hospital to visit a friend yesterday and I walked right into a street sign post because I was busy looking at a house while walking!! Who put that post there?!

Being safe in Mexico
I think one never knows for sure how safe a place is. In the USA one can get shot sitting in a movie theater. Before we came here I looked up the state dept.'s warnings regarding the state of Oaxaca and there were none. I think it's like most places, just try to use common sense. A few years ago we drove to a beach near Mullige on Baja and camped with four other couples for 8 nights and immediately after that we drove our car all the way to Guatemala. We stayed on the toll roads And didn't drive at night. We were lucky, no problems. I think if you're worried at all you shouldn't do it.
