God's Country
Wow, we love the pics. Have missed the fall colors since we lived in IL. We have friends that live in Grantham, NH. I went to grade school with them in Lexington, IL. It is a small world. J&D

The Color
You have to see it to believe it. No photograph can even come close to experiencing the beauty as being there!

Cape Sable Island, not Sable Island
It is an important distinction since both islands are off Nova Scotia. You visited Cape Sable Island and the town of Clark's Harbour (we spell it differently than the U.S. spelling) in Shelburne County. Sable Island is much further out into the Atlantic and is a Canadian nationally protected reserve thanks to its famous herds of Sable Island wild ponies. Glad to read you enjoyed accommodation in Yarmouth - sure hope you also got to the Cape Forchu Lighstation, one of the most striking lighthouses in the province. - Bruce Bishop, Yarmouth, N.s.

Aren't friends to visit wonderful?
Always adds to any trip to have special folks to see along the way. Looks like they live the high life!! Hope all he Natl Parks closing does not present a problem on your trip. When we went to Grant's Tomb in NYC they were on the cut back last spring and we could not get into see the tomb unless we wanted to wait for two hours. We did not. Our government is a MESS right now. NO one cares about anything but their own job and their own party. I am so disgusted I don't even want to hear about them anymore. How much longer is your trip and where is the final "jumping off point"?

Loved every bit!!
When we were there (probably 20 odd years) we took printed pictures which are stacked in a box somewhere. It was snowing and as we walked it got heavier and heavier and windy so we could not continue the whole walk we had planned. It was a conference and I had not come equipped with long underwear, scarves, gloves, etc. So, I enjoyed it more than you might imagine. We did stay in a hotel where we were close enough to get out parts of three days. What a great trip and what a great time to take it. Thanks.

Beacon Hill Doorways

Doors
I love doors too. Just like paths which want to make you wonder what is beyond, what is behind the doors . . .

Which Tea Party?
I'm sure you mean the Boston Tea Party that took place in Boston Harbor and not the Tea Party that is going to shut down the Federal Government in a couple of days . . .

I must be stupid, what am I missing here? You're being bad about what? Did I write an incorrect state abbreviation somewhere?

New Bedford and Barrow Alaska
When in Alaska, we were hosted in New Bedford by the whaling history folks. There is an NPS legislative connection between the two places. New Bedford was a stop on the underground railroad for fugitive slaves. An easy escape was to sign on a whaling ship for a two year trip around the horn and ending in the high arctic--sometimes icebound for the winter. A number of the fugitives stayed and married eskimos. Interesting huh!!

New Bedford
We learned all this yesterday and thought it all so interesting. I thought it was good that the museum covered whaling in the Inuit culture along with everything else. There were some Alaska artifacts in that place that were exquisite.

So you will have them all after this trip (states)?
I liked Newport. Seemed like a comfy town. Looks like you are getting some nice fall color now. Whaling museum we missed, but saw one some place that I cannot even recall. That is awful. We have been so many places and seen so much when you get to be eighty sometimes it "all runs together". Sad. Oh, well, still alive and kicking.

Memory
That's why I keep this blog, so I can remember where we've been and the things we done.

WHAT?????? NO WHALE CHOWDER!!!!!! OR WHALE ROLLS!!!!! There is a great art museum in an old mansion that you could visit.....Isabella Gardner Museum near the Boston Fine Arts Museum if you have time and we think you would enjoy it. The history stuff in Boston is fantastic and you can do a walking tour that you can pick up at various places. We've been there a couple of times and there are also great pubs! Have fun! Love the trip. J&D

Boston
Thanks for the Boston suggestions. It will be interesting to see how our feet hold out, it's going to be a lot of walking.

More lobster?
I'm not sure you found enough lobster to eat on this trip. Maybe we'll have to find some in Prescott when you get home! Miss you guys but I'm sure enjoying traveling with you!
