Woke up in in sunny Redondo Beach. Had Breakfast in the hotel. Packed up and went and chilled on Redondo beach for an hour. Weather was beautiful and really warm. Set off at 11.00am for our 7 hour drive to Arizona. 7 hours sounds horrific, but driving in America is completely different and so much easier than England. No traffic, automatic car and cruise control. We drove through the desert and Palm Springs. Even in the middle of nowhere literally, there is a McDonald's. Baz has gone Junk food and Walmart crazy. We stopped off at a Walmart to get some more supplies for the journey, big case of water etc, and grabbed a sun way for lunch. Drove all the way on the 10, reached Arizona about 6.00pm. Arrived at our rented Vacation home, it ... read more

Woke up on Santa Barbara / Ventura Baron had Mcdonalds breakfast' .....I've never see this man eat so much junk...he has had pancakes and waffles and bacon and sausage pretty much every day. He is truly sucked in to the American fast food Life! His goal is to sample Wendys and Dennys this week. I might see a fat Baron for the first time ever. We set off for LA, saw a huge memorial for 9/11 of flags in the ground for each victim. We then hit Malibu beach, home of loads celebs. Most of the beach is private but the view of the homes is great. We then found Topanga Beach and sat on there for a good hour. We set off again and made our way to Universal studios! Arrived at Universal Studios, and ... read more

Woke up in Monterey, got a coffee and went out on the beach before we set off at about 10.00am This is by far our longest day. We got on to the Highway 1 to drive all the way the through, hit all the landmarks. We didn't have accommodation booked for the night, so we thought we would just see where we ended up. We Firstly Pebble beach, where Baron was excited to see the golf course. The beach was beautiful. Then we carried on and hound the famous tree the lone cypress. The drive had loads of turns and at times really high up. The photos don't do it justice. We stopped off at loads of places on the way just to have a look at the views or the beaches. We then came across ... read more

Woke up to our last morning in Groveland. Joe made us another fantastic breakfast. Deer family of up to 10 outside the bedroom window, Baron fed them some fruit. We set off at about 10.00am for a long drive to Monterey. Felt really sad leaving Groveland, loved its quirkiness. Joe and the Cabin was like a home from home. Baron read all the directions to Monterey from a map, (no sat nav for us). We made it to Monterey, both in one piece at about 3pm. (Total 5 hours drive) We had a quick lunch at Sly Mcflys, and then a wander round the little coastal town and looked for somewhere to stay. Eventually found the The Clement Hotel by Intercontinental, on the beach. Amazing views. We went downstairs to the outside bar area to make ... read more

Deer woke us up..
Baron giving the Deer breakfast

6.30am We woke up, Deer family outside the bedroom window! Went upstairs to the main house where Joe had cooked us the all American breakfast, cinnamon waffles, eggs, bacon sausage. Delicious. Have put on about 10lbs in weight, in 3 days. Baron went out on to the balcony after breakfast fed the deer some waffles. 10.00am We set off for Yosemite and it was a beautiful drive, we took the 120 hwy which had only been reopened the day before. As we got nearer to Yosemite we could see some of the fire damage. Over 250,000 acres have been burnt. It is a huge area. When we got further in the views of rocks the valleys were amazing! We got in to the National park area and took an internal bus to the visitor centre. We ... read more

7.30 went out for some breakfast. We ate at The Blue mermaid attached to the hotel. Sat outside in the sun. 10.00am Checked out collected car and set off on our journey to Groveland. The journey took about 4hrs 30, and was fantastic, stopped off at Walmart for some essentials and saw THE PEOPLE OF WALMART. Temperature 99f. As we got closer to Yosemite, there are signs of appreciation everywhere for the firefighters who have been fighting the 3rd largest fire in california. it has been devastating to the area. It was 90% contained on the day we arrived. 3.30pm Finally arrived at The Cub Inn in Groveland. It is Indescribable. It is a raised log cabin, set in the woods and wildlife, run by fantastic owners, Joe and Charlene, and their dog Cubby. Joe told ... read more

Day 2 We were up early...3.30am. Jet lagged early. At 7.30am it was beautiful sunshine, and the usual fog in the bay area, nowhere to be seen. Decided we would get the cable car from Mason and Taylor up to union square (bought a all day pass $12), and had breakfast at Lori's Diner. After breakfast we had a good wander round the shops. We then got the cable car back to the bay, and dropped the shopping off at the hotel. We went down to the landing area to get our ferry to Alcatraz at 12.30. Once we got to Alcatraz we did the audio tour and got the ferry back at 2.30. Once back in the Bay Area we went to the Crab House (Pier 39) for lunch, they serve crab cooked in garlic ... read more

Picked up Hire Car from Hertz, nice little SUV to take us on our little American adventure. Arrived at San Francisco Bay area at 6pm and dropped car in propark, via gotta park.
