After a good night of sleep (each kid only up once and everyone sleeping in a little in the morning) we were ready to pack up and hit the road again. It took us awhile to get everything in order and back into the car. We didn't actually leave Grand Junction until about 11 am. Sarah rode in the backseat with the boys so she could help Paul with homework for the first 2 hour stretch of our drive to Edward, Co. We enjoyed our picnic lunch at a rest area in Edward before driving into the Denver area. Levi napped and Paul played in the backseat while we drove. We arrived in Morrison, CO with just a few minutes to enjoy the indoor aspects of Dinosaur Ridge. The directions we followed got us to the ... read more

Thankful that we didn't have to pack up and check out of the hotel today, we spent the day in Grand Junction and Frutia, Colorado. Sleep was not so great last night, both boys had a pretty hard time. This meant we got a later start than anticipated this morning, but still got everything in. Our main focus for today was Dinosaur Journey Museum in Fruita. Since this is our "Dinosaur Trip" it was time for us to spend some time hanging out with dinosaurs. The museum had some great exhibits and hands on activities for kids. The boys appreciated being out of the car and getting to explore a new place. After the museum, we ate our picnic lunch in the neighboring park and headed back to the hotel (the same one for two nights!) ... read more

After a bit of a rough night of sleep, we started the day by returning to view the Bryce Canyon Amphitheater from the rim between Sunrise and Sunset points. We even went a few hundred feet down the Queen's Garden Loop trail before deciding we were not prepared for that intense of a hike. Next we checked out of the Bryce Lodge and headed down the Canyon road to Rainbow Point where Paul really wanted to see the 1600+ year old Bristlecone Pine tree that is highlighted in one of his ViewMaster reels. We all enjoyed that hike, although Levi's enjoyment was for more of the nap he got while in the backpack on Sarah's back. Unfortunately, the famous tree doesn't appear to have any more living branches. We decided to take the Scenic Hwy 12 ... read more

Paul slept in this morning but he felt much better. He actually had a really great day. Hopefully whatever bothered his body yesterday was just a fluke and we'll be good to go for the rest of the trip! After eating breakfast in our room, we checked out of the hotel and spent the morning exploring Zion Canyon. Since cars are not allowed in the park (unless you stay at the lodge, then you can park there only), we took the bus system up to the North end of the canyon. We enjoyed visiting the bus stops to see the beautiful sights and took a few short hikes. Levi loved being on the bus and did a great job in the backpack. Paul had fun taking photos on his camera and asked lots of questions! Once ... read more

With a big day ahead of us, we wanted to get up and going right away. We were checking out of our room by 7:30 am so we could meet our friend, Dawn Kiss, for a breakfast buffet at a hotel restaurant by 8:00 am. Dawn had worked in our church nursery when Paul was little, so it was very fun to reconnect with her. Afterwards we walked outside to quickly look out at the strip one more time before getting in the car for our two hour drive to St. George, Utah. Our drive took us out of Nevada, through a corner of Arizona, and into Utah. In St. George, we visited the Dinosaur Discovery Site at Johnson Farm. In 2000 a bunch of dinosaur tracks were discovered here and they built this museum around ... read more

Our Mother's Day was a little out of the ordinary. We had packed the car the night before so we had little to pack in the morning. As a result, we were on the road by 9 am. Our first stop was to play at Beach Park in Bakersfield, CA. Having visited this park before, we knew it was close to the freeway and had a Dinosaur (aka Dragon) slide. This was the perfect first stop for our "Dinosaur Trip." The kids swang on the swings, went down the slides, and tested out their buckets and shovels in the sand. Our next stop was a late lunch at the outlets in Barstow, CA. Although the GPS tried directing us to a vacant piece of land, we were able to find the outlets! After some food and ... read more
