Well we have finally arrived in Darwin after what seems like an eternity and are staying with Dennis and Edmund for a while. It is great to see them both as it has been a long time (probably 10 years) since we have seen Edmund. However as I am still trying to play catch up with the blog this entry is about Alice. We arrived on Sunday afternoon and were lucky to get a spot in one of the caravan parks for 8 nights. There are hundreds of nomads heading to the top end and they all pull into the caravan parks and sit and wait until someone pulls out so they can set up. It was good to get the camper off the truck for a while and catch up with washing cleaning etc. John ... read more

We left Ayers rock and headed to Kings Canyon which is about 150kms from the rock. The canyon was amazing and I guess would have been more spectacular from the rim but I wasn't up for the steep climb so we settled for the walk along the canyon floor. The ghost gums against the backdrop of red rock were outstanding and the colours in the rocks were amazing. We originally intended to then follow the loop road back into Alice so we didn't have to drive the distance back to the highway but were told that it was very rough and very dusty. Since we hadn't done any dustproofing for this trip we ended up going back to the highway and stayed overnight in a free camp on the Finke river. Amazingly we met a couple ... read more

After leaving Coober Pedy we headed to the Rock with an overnight stop on the border of SA and NT. Near the overnight stop there were large flocks of budgies which looked stunning in flight with flashing green and yellow colour. We fuelled up halfway along the Lasseter Hway into the Rock thinking that fuel would be much more expensive at Uluru only to find that it was 40 cents a litre cheaper at the Rock, Go Figure. Oh well you live and learn. The resort was a pleasant surprise, prices were reasonable, the camping area was huge AND we finally got to shed a layer or two of clothing which was an absolute bonus. We decided to drive straight to the Olgas and stay for the sunset pictures and do Uluru the next day. The ... read more

After leaving Broken Hill we headed for Coober Pedy via Pt Augusta and hoped that after the cold of Broken Hill the weather would be a little warmer. It was nice to finally leave the plains and enter the Flinders Ranges, but that didn't last too long before we were back out onto the plains at Port Augusta. We didn't stay to look around but continued on for an overnight stay at Pimba, which is also a large roadhouse catering for all through traffic, but also the main fuel supply for Woomera. We were amazed at the number of people camped in the free camp at Pimba, and almost drove past it as we thought it was a caravan shop at first because of the large number of caravans in there. Woomera was about 25kms from ... read more

We spent several days at Broken Hill. It is a typical mining town with the town being built around the mine, after all it was the start of the big Australian BHP. All of the high quality ore has been mined but they claim there is still 35 years left of mining low grade ore which produces silver lead and zinc. At its peak it employed over 4000 people but now due to mechanisation and the closing of many mines there are only about 400 people employed in mining. Tourism is now an integral part of the economy. As it was a prosperous town in the early 1900's there is some lovely architecture in the town. We also visited Silverton which is 25 kms out of Broken Hill and was where silver was originally discovered. When ... read more

Well folks its that time of year again when the Formans hit the road and escape the cold of Canberra. We were a bit slack at blogging the last trip and promised to do better this time. Although we are not off to a good start we do hope to have a few more entries from this trip. We left home on Thursday May 12th and headed for Broken Hill. Our first night on the road saw us beside a lake just out of Mildura and still feeling the chill. We are now off to Broken Hill. ... read more

Hi All, Thought it was about time we reported in. Not that we have much to tell except for storms, wind, rain, midgees and the odd fish. It seems whenever we are up here the weather is just not quite right for catching Barra. We spent a week at Baffle Creek and then a few days at a place called Maira, which is about 45 minutes north of Bundaberg and a lot of that time was spent waiting for winds to drop or rain to stop. I did manage to catch a grunter at Baffle Creek. Today we returned from a week at Lake Monduran and the Barra were not biting(surprise, surprise). There were heaps of people there and no-one was reporting a catch as the water temp was too low. I did, however, manage to ... read more

Hi all, Well we are off again for about ten weeks. We are travelling North about as far as Rockhampton and will be fishing a few of the dams/lakes up around that area. Probably won't be many exciting scenic pictures from this trip as we will mostly be going to places we have been before. Its funny that we are leaving at about the time that we were arriving home last year but we will hopefully have better weather for the Barra. We expect that we will do a few trips with John's Uncle and Aunty and Ann and Bernie have very kindly made their house available to us again. I am very torn about leaving our beautiful grandson Finn but he is heading off to Canada for a month with his parents and Lisa has ... read more

Hi Everyone, Since the last blog entry we have had a day trip to Burrum Heads and been back to Geoff and Maries for a few days and had a days fishing at Barumba Dam (about an hour from Gympie) and although we only had one day there we thought it was a lovely spot and will definitely return. Unfortunately I forgot my camera that day so no pics from there. We caught up with Neville and Helen (our Weipa tour leaders) and had a lovely night at their place for dinner. Then it was back to River Heads to get the house ready to close up before heading off to the Muster. Michael and Marilyn joined us for a few days at River Heads prior to our leaving and it was lovely to have them ... read more

For anyone still hanging in there we have a few more pics. After leaving Boondooma Lake with Geoff and Marie we headed to Inskip Point to have some time with Bruce and Jo. It is such a lovely place to camp You can have campfires, dogs and as much space as you need and all of this for just $10 a night and only a minutes walk from the beach. The weather was reasonable, although we did have a couple of days that were a bit windy and cool (I won't say cold, because most of you would probably laugh at me). I managed to cook a few nice meals from the camp oven on the fire and on one of the cooler days we decided to make some dampers. They turned out nicely and we ... read more
