Well folks we have just had a weeks fishing at Lake Boondooma which is about two hours north west of Gympie, and sadly have to report that we did not catch a single fish. Geoff and Marie caught three nice Bass in the week that we were there but we came up with absolutely nothing. We did, however, catch some redclaw which were very tasty. It was a very pleasant week though with a campfire every night and after the mist had cleared of a morning we had reasonable days. Geoff and Marie's neighbours, Skip and Marg, joined us for a few days with their lovely little Jack Russel (Milo) and Skip played his harmonica at night by the fire(very enjoyable). The last day was just a little bit too cold and very reminiscent of Frying ... read more

Well folks I have finally found time to upload the promised pictures. We are now at our second home at River Heads and Ann and Bernie have left for Gove. We will spend a couple of days getting the red dust out of the boat and would like to do some fishing around Fraser. On the way home from Weipa we stopped at a caravan park in Mareeba and hosed off the truck, camper and boat but when we arrived here and took the cover off the boat there was red dust everywhere. Most of the photos are from the Atherton region which we really enjoyed. After we left there we headed south to Mackay and stopped at a few places to explore possible fishing spots for our nest trip. We then had a couple of ... read more

Hi all, Sorry for the length of time it has taken to get something on the blog but we have not had the coverage unitl now. I have included some pictures that probably tell their own story. We had 5 weeks at Weipa and left with a freezer full of fish. We caught a variety of fish including cod, bream, Queenfish, Jewfish, Grunter, Salmon, Tuskfish, Stripeys and Mother in Laws but no Barramundi. It was certainly a learning experience and we have thoroughly enjoyed it. The weather was certainly tropical with not much difference between day and night temperatures and the people in the fishing camp were all very friendly. After we left Weipa we headed to the Atherton Tablelands and spent afew days exploring the region. I will post some photos of that later. We ... read more

Hi All, Just thought we would let you all know that we are on the road again travelling north. We have had two nights at Johns cousin's in Maitland and are now just outside of Ballina at a roadside stop. Tomorrow we will go to Gympie to Uncle Geoff's. He will update us as to when we leave for Weipa and what we neeed to have on board. I am just testing my mobile broadband and it seems to be working OK so take care all and we will start posting some photos when we have something interesting to capture. Love John and Maree ... read more

Well here we are in sunny Canberra and having mixed feelings about being here. It has been lovely to catch up with some of our friends and family. Seems odd though not to be seeing Lisa so I will try and get in a flight to Melbourne to catch up with her and Nick. John has had hayfever since we've been home which he didn't have at all on our travels. We don't have many photos from the last leg of the trip as the weather was not that good. After leaving River Heads we spent two nights in Gympie and then had another two nights with Bruce and Jo in Buderim. John caught a beautiful flatty in the Maroochy River which we threw on the barbie and ate that night. It was then onto Yamba ... read more

Well folks our tenancy is just about up and we will be leaving River Heads on Saturday. Ann and Bernie arrive home tomorrow so we will hand over the house (whilst sharing a champers of course) and head for Gympie on Saturday to say goodbye to Uncle Geoff and Marie. After that we will head to Buderim and stay a night with Bruce and Jo. Our plan is to stop for a while at Yamba and then keep heading south. We are assuming that the weather is warm enough in Canberra now. We spent another week at Inskip Point but only managed to have one night with Bruce and Jo as we had to get to Monduran to meet up with Uncle Geoff. The weather was not very good at Inskip and only got the boat ... read more

Well once again we have arrived back at our base of River Heads. It has certainly been a godsend having Ann and Bernie's house to return to while we wash, repack and restock for the next trip. John can actually get a few good nights sleep and of course watch his precious TV with proper reception. We spent a week with Cheryl and Jeff in Mackay, although Jeff was working for most of the time. It was wonderful to catch up with them again as we hadn't seen them for about seven years. We helped Cheryl do some gardening and landscaping while we were there and were fairly pleased with the results. We didn't do any fishing there but did have a bit of a drive around the area and also went to a sugar crushing mill, ... read more

Relaxed at River Heads for a couple of days then went to Maryborough to a Liesure/Camping show. Whilst at Maryborough we had a look at the old port area and the old buildings and museums. Maryborough is about 30 kms from the coast on the Mary River and was a major port in the 1800's. In the 1860 era there were only two ports which processed immigrants (legally anyway), being Sydney and Maryborough, so a lot of early Australian history in the Maryborough area. For the book reader, Maryborough was also the birthplace of the author of Mary Poppins, a statue is erected outside the building in the old port area where she was born. We then travelled to Gympie and stayed with my uncle Geoff/Marie for a couple of days and had a look at ... read more

We wnjoyed a couple of wondeful days with Andy and Kathy. Did the tourist bit, went to Burrum Heads (lovely spot where the river meets the ocean), and had a nice lunch at a restaraunt on the water at Toogum. We all went on a whale watching cruise, the whales would come right up to the boats and put on an excellent display. A very enjoyable experience, well worth the money. Drove up to Bundaberg and had a look around. Went to Mon Repos which is the beach where the turtles come ashore to breed. The breeding season starts early November so if we are still here we will return for another look. We were lucky enough to photograph a PSM turtle stranded on the rocks. Andy and I went out in the boat for a ... read more

Maree has handed this post over, so. She forgot to mention that we went beach fishing whilst at Woodgate National Park, no fish but Maree did manage to land a seagul. He was an angry little bugger after being dragged backwards thru the surf with a hook in his leg. We had to do a Steve Erwin and throw a towel over his head and sit on him (not really, we did push his head into the sand to stop him biting). He seemed ok when he hobbled off. The professional fishermen patrol the beaches for the mullet schools and net everything in the water, bit of a disaster really. We went to Buderim and stayed with Bruce and Jo for a night before heading off to Noosa. Noosa is lovely but full of tourists. All ... read more
