Yeah, screw Peru! I'm so excited you're moving on to Bolivia! Stay at the swanky LP recommended lakeside hostel in Copacabana, ride down the World's Most Dangerous Road from La Paz, don't stay in Cochabamba any longer than necessary, hug all the Monkey's for me in Villa Tunari, find the bar/restaurant at the top of the hill in Sucre, do a mine tour in Potosi and do the Salar de Uyuni. Aaaah, Bolivia te amo! Wish I was there. Sorry I haven't e-mailed in bloody ages. Will send a lengthy one soon. Love and hugs xoxo
Hey Tana, hope you are feeling better. I look so forward to your blog , as well as your pictures. I admire you and am also jealous of you all at the same time. I would never have the nerve to do what you are doing. Have fun, stay safe and keep in touch.
You ARE your father's daughter!!!! Tan...you ARE your Dad's daughter, no question about it! He would love to be doing all the things you are doing there, I'm sure. Your adventures sound like a continual challenge....it sure takes someone who is in shape, strong, and adventuresome. I admire you for doing this and with such obvious enjoyment. I'm amazed at the insight and foresight it took to plan for this trip, especially clotheswise. Continue to have fun and do be safe. Love to you, becky
Beautiful Mountains and Water Hi Tan---I had trouble getting on your site all day yesterday. Everyone must be looking at your blog and cool pics! The country side is beautiful but it must be cool in the mountains. I don't think I could handle the altitude-15,000 ft-no way unless I was in a pressurized airplane! Thanks for adding some pics of yourself. How about a close up? Looks like you are slim and trim and that you are letting your hair grow? Hope you are still enjoying yourself. I sent you some pics of mountain roads in Bolivia that I hope you DON'T plan to travel! Your bus trips sound hairy enough!! Keeps the blog and pics coming. I look for a new addition every day and I finally found some of the places you are visiting on my big map.
Be safe--
Love you,
Dad
Huaraz I'm so glad you loved Huaraz, I had an amazing time there and the mountains and glaciers are so beautiful. I went with a group of about 15 and only 4 of us made it to the top of the glacier we climbed, so dont worry about not being able to do loads, its hard work! At least you didn't need to be put on an oxygen tank like one of my mates. keep safe....
So of allllll the pix down here at the bottom, guess which one I clicked first?
That's right: the dressed-up llama. Should I even ASK?
And I want to go swimming in that blue water, though I'll bet it's about 3 degrees from freezing.
I'm glad you found your mocha frapp--I was beginning to think there would be violence soon. :)
Keep posting!
Temp Changes The temperature flucuations must be huge -- do you have all the warm and cool weather clothes with you? Is it like the cool/hot water therapy for your body? The spa vacation is definitely much more my type. I enjoyed the pics of you. However, I'm not crazy about the mountain views -- just looking at them is not fun for me! The couple of pics of Lima were not very impressive. Is it a pretty city? Take care. Love Mom
In awe My darling, just wanted to let you know that I read your entries eagerly and with a sense of wonder. This time also with sadness, since you so well describe the impact of our daily lives in those of animals fastly disappearing from the face of the earth. How tragic. I know you will be one of their ardent defenders from now on. By the way, how is your español? and since I missed it, FELIZ CUMPLEAÑOS LINDA. Un beso de tu amiga Elena
Soapbox is good Thanks for bringing home the points about how what we do matters. Your photos are, as usual, tremendous. I loved how happy you sounded on your birthday. :-)
whoaaaaa... Think the k-words would get along with a monkey or two?? Maybe they'd keep the boy in line...I mean the human boy, not the kitty-boy. NOTHING will keep HIM in line!
Do I even need to say "great pics"? The milk-faced monkeys are just adorable....and Felix just breaks my heart. And the ocelot...GORGEOUS. You can even see the little hooky-things on his tongue...
Keep posting...I'll write soon!
thanks again! Tana, I continue to enjoy reading of your travels and experiences, and love the photos. This is the first blog i have ever read and i am enjoying keeping up with you and vicariously visiting all these beautiful and interesting places, hearing of the people and their lives in SA, and seeing all the gorgeous scenery. Thanks for taking time to update.
Jane
in awe! ok. Those monkeys are precious. I am soooo jealous. All those photos are amazing, but you know how we are about critters. The scenery with all the clouds is gorgeous, too. Thanks for sharing. I hope you can stay there a bit longer. That place sounds perfect.
This sounds like the place to be, Tanya! I want to go there! Maybe not to stay b/c no horses, but other than that, it sounds awesome. :-) And, it sounds like you've really found your fun place. It's beautiful! Thanks for writing...I love reading about what you're up to!
Great Pic's Tan-- Tan--
Another very interesting blog. I'm glad that you are now sending pic's of birds and mammals. They are so much more interesting than the bugs! I tried to find the places you reported visiting in your last blog on our large map and was able to find Cuenca, Macas, Puyo and Tena. Could not find Amazoonica. I assume it is east of Tena? It sounds like a wonderful place but I don't think the sleeping arrangements would go well with my asthma. It is amazing that you feel so much better when you are out in the boonies! You pictures are fantastic! Send more! Where did you find the internet setup? I thought you didn't even have electricity in Amazoonia.
Be safe--
Love,
Dad
Animals Tan,
The pictures are lovely -- I'm sure you are in your glory with all the animals. However, this place does seem even more primative than the other places you have been visiting! I bet Holly and John will enjoy these pictures. Hope you have a Happy Birthday. Love, Mom
whoa! As always, GORGEOUS pix. The toucan and the macaw look like National Geographic shots! I love the "residents" shot b/c the goat (that IS a goat, right?) looks like he's got butterfly wings growing out his back. ("Goat With Butterfly Wings"...nah, that wouldn't have made a very good song title.) And I love the ears on the ocelot!! The capybara would freak me the HELL out--reminds me too much of the rats here in the 'hood.
"Problem monkeys" made me laugh...as did the thought of how you would react to having your arm randomly swung from. It sounds like you're having a great time, though. I'm glad to hear it! I'll talk to you soon...
Thank you! Tana, I am so enjoying reading of your travels and experiences in SA, and am thrilled to see the lovely photos, especially the scenery and the churches, inside and out. I am glad and relieved the health scare has been resolved happily. I look forward to your updates and also look forward to your next visit to Columbia--would love to visit with you and your parents and hear lots more about your travels. All your efforts in sending messages and photos are very, very much appreciated. Jane
Sunshine hi Tanya,
I was surprised to see how bundled up you had to be! You have to be prepared for everything, don't you? Sure am happy about your clean bill of health. We love reading your blog and your photos are beyond amazing. Thanks for sharing with us all!
Hey Tanya...It's been such fun following along your journey. It's been quite an adventure. I am so excited for you and am envious of all you're doing. I'm not so sure I could handle it. The pictures have been gorgeous. Absolutely amazing. I'm so glad you're jouralling all of this. Thanks for sharing! Take care. Love ya!
So many memories Hey Tana, its a shame you didn't enjoy Banos, it was one of my favourite places in Ecuador. The devils nose train ride was so scary, I remember freaking out a few times when I did it. Keep having a blast girl! - Rob xoxo
Fabulous!! Tan...I love your blog. I admire your tenacity and spirit of adventure. Best news to hear of your good health report! Your pictures are fantastic. Love them and you....becky swanson
keep on keepin on, girl!!! It's great fun reading your blog--do continue!!! It gives us a vicarious experience we'd never have otherwise!! got kissed under Niagara falls! Can't wait to hear your many stories in great detail! Keep it coming! deb
Great Pics again Tan,
We heard about the volcano, but the name of the place was different than Banos and we assumed you were not near it. It was a good thing you didn't get stuck in that unfriendly place, though it does look pretty. The pictures of the train ride look very bleak and desolate, kind of like Afganistan pictures I've seen. I've been sending your blog to a lot of people, many of whom are very impressed. Your pictures are beautiful. Are you sending them somewhere safe? It would be horrible if you lost any of them. They would make a great coffee table book of SA. Take care. Love, Mom
I am borrowing the Aussie tradition, and going on a 'walk-about', to follow my passion. Stepping out of the 'rat race' for a life sabbatical, i'm chasing my long-time dream of doing conservation work in the amazon. On a whirlwind tour of South America, I will be volunteering with conservation organizations and animal sanctuaries, while seeking out all the sights, sounds and adventures I can stuff into my psyche along the way!
