On my way back North from Ano Nuevo, I stopped off to take a few pictures around the Pidgeon Point Lighthouse. It was only a handful of miles North of Ano Nuevo, also right off of Pacific Coast Highway, highway 1.... read more

I decided to make the drive down to Ano Nuevo to check out the Northern Elelphant Seals during the pupping season. During the pupping season, all the hikes into the pupping areas are guided. You can go there other times of the year without being guided, and still see Elephant Seals though. I decided to take the guided tour to see what I could learn. While these seals come to this area twice a year, the spend a vast majority of their time out at sea, far out at sea. While that must be a tiring existence, when they are here this time of year, they are generally here for around three months or so. Must be they get the majority of their rest for the year here. It is supposedly a 1.5 mile hike from ... read more

It was a clear warm day, so I decided to make the short drive from Berkeley up to Napa, which took maybe an hour. It was a bit closer than I thought it would be. I drove through Napa and St Helena and then up to Calistoga, then made my way back South, sampling wine on the route South. The Magnificat at Franciscan and the Cabernet Savignon at Grgich Hills were both quite good. I stopped into Buster's Southern BBQ to get me some lunch. Wow was that good if you like barbeque. There was a bit of a line to wait in, but well worth the wait. Come to think of it, every person in that line was a biker (motorcycle) except for me, but they all looked like they had white collar jobs Monday ... read more

I decided to drive the two hours down to Monterey to look for places to stay next month for the Pebble Beach Pro Am, and just check out the area a little. I didn't make it out to the farthest point into the Pacific on the Monterey Peninsula, but wish I had.... read more

It was a clear warm day in the Bay area, and I decided to venture over and check out Angel Island. I took the ferry from Tiburon, which was only USD $11 for a round trip ticket. It is only a mile ride from Tiburon to the docking area on Angel Island, so it is just a 15 minute ride or so. Angel Island had a military presence in the West Garrison, in the East Garrison, the guns on the West side of the island, and the Nike Missile Station as well. The buildings that remain today largely appear to be circa World War II, housing GIs for up to a week or so while they waited to be shipped out to their duties in the Pacific. This day we were not permitted to hike above ... read more

After watching the Michigan State vs. Penn State game at The Old Pro in Palo Alto, I took the recommendation from a Penn State alum to head West up to highway 35 for the good views up there. You can see West to the Pacific (on a clear day), and across the Bay East to say Hayward and North of San Jose. My Spartans did not fare well on that day. However, back in State College Pennsylvania where it had snowed earlier in the day and was the site of the game, was much colder than in Palo Alto. Felt like about 75 degrees in the mid day heat. They claim The Old Pro is the best sports bar in the Bay area. They did have a lot of TVs there, and many games on at ... read more

I saw the clear skies so headed East up into the hills of Berkeley in hopes of getting some crystal clear photos of San Francisco, Alcatraz, Golden Gate Bridge, etc. I took Grizzly Peak road, then stood on the West side of the three or four story Cal Berkeley building that sits above and East of the Lawrence Hall of Science building to get these photos.... read more
