The video here shows that the transients from all the Tsunami wave effects had not yet died out and were still very much ongoing. The first Tsunami wave from Japan was estimated to be a 2 meter wave or increase in sea level, but was to arrive at 3:07am on 11 Mar 2011. This video was shot at around noon that same day, so just less than 9 hours after the first effects of the Tsunami were to be seen.... read more

On this day I chose to visit Pearl Harbor, only seeing photos and video of it previously. Much like seeing the Lorraine Motel (http://www.civilrightsmuseum.org/) in Memphis for the first time in person, seeing this historic and still operational military facility in person is a must see if you are on Oahu. The reality is that there really is too much to see in one day, so if you can only spend on day there, get there early. There is the USS Arizona (BB-39) memorial which should be your first stop, with park rangers directing you to where you see a short video first, before being transported the short distance over to the memorial by boat. There is the USS Missouri (BB-63) memorial on which you can spend a good amount of time touring the Battleship upon ... read more

I woke up to one of those famous Colorado bluebird days this day. Sunny without a cloud in the sky all day, from Telluride all the way back to Denver. I had never visited Ouray before, so I drove just a short bit South from Ridgway to see the mountains in the area. Very cool indeed.... read more

I started the day by taking in a free tribute to Claudia Cardinale, a siren actress from the 60s and 70s mostly from European films, then was pleasantly surprised to see that she was in attendance, watched the first half of her film "The girl with the suitcase", then took off to higher elevations to see if I could get some good photos. The weather that day had some clouds which affected how well you could see the terrain, but I still took a ton of photos from higher up. My apologies in advance if you grow bored with this section of photos. This particular blog entry is referenced in the Top 49 Ski Resort Blogs blog by Lori Kobelan. You can find it in the Images section.... read more

It was a rather long drive from Denver to Telluride, especially with so many photo opportunities along the way. I hadn't seen this part of the state in the summer time, so I took full advantage. It was a good day for a drive in the mountains.... read more

Time to clean things up and leave the cabin to its own devices for the winter. It ends up being about a 3.5 hour drive back to Denver from Ryan Park.... read more

We had a busy Saturday planned. Hiking the Snowy Range (which took about 3 hours including our relaxing at the top and photo taking), followed by some alcohol for self medication purposes, then the drive into Saratoga to clean up and eat some pizza.... read more

Took a few photos on our way from Denver to the cabin once we reached Snowy Range Pass. It was a great weather day, and little wind. While Pete's cabin is merely 9 miles or so West from here, we decided it best to start happy hour prior to that remaining 9 mile drive. Excellent choice, well done!... read more

Today I decided to try one of the hikes above Red Rocks Amphitheater on Denver's West side, and take some photos while I was up there. It was a fairly clear day, and probably around 65 degrees and breezy at the top, but the breeze on the way up helped me cool off from the steep hike. I don't think I would recommend this hike simply due to how steep it is, and how often there are lots of small loose rocks on the trail. The way up wasn't too bad other than just steep. On the way down though, you had to be careful each step as those loose stones would give out from under your feet all the time. Good views on the way up and at the top though.... read more

I visited the Albany Bulb a couple of times, this day and 22 March 2009. I believe once a landfill for at least construction materials. You will find some old concrete and rebar in places along the trail. There is also some cool artwork in the NW corner of the bulb, that I didn't stumble across until my second visit there. Here are the photos from my visits there.... read more
