Driving Home – Wed & Thurs – March 21th & 22nd The vacation officially is ending with a 2-day drive back home. We had a last breakfast with a few of the early risers in the Embassy Suites (eggs to order, omelets, fruit, juice, milk/tea, etc). We had virtually everything packed the night before, and we put the final few things in the last bag Wednesday morning. We were able to get a luggage trolley and took all the bags down to the car, got everything loaded, and on the road by 8:15. It was a little disappointing to see the end of our vacation, but we are eager to get back home. The drive was fine on Wednesday with good weather and no problems with traffic. The entire route is basically interstate highways, ... read more

No Game Today - Tuesday – March 20th Today is the last day of the vacation in Florida and we have only one scheduled activity. However it is not until this evening. So we got up as usual and had breakfast, but there was a replacement cook and he wasn’t nearly as proficient as the main man. Even though it was a little slower, the food was good and we had plenty of time today. We decided to go over to the Cardinal’s training complex and see what happens when they are not playing a game. We were told to park along University Street and walk to the gate in the back of the complex. Actually that was the player’s entrance and we were directed further down the fence to the next gate. By ... read more

Atlanta Braves Road Game - Monday – March 19th Hello for Palm Beach Garden (at the hotel). This is the last day that we go to a baseball game, so it means our vacation is rapidly winding down. There are still another couple of days, but the reality of the situation is beginning to hit us. Of course, the up side is that we are anxious to get home and see the family back there. We had a relatively early departure this morning, so once again we could not sleep very late. We got up and had another full breakfast. However today, Janet got the cook to prepare French Toast. She ordered one slice of French Toast and one egg-over-medium, and she got two of each. David had his pancakes and omelet. With juice, ... read more

Miami Marlins Game - Sunday – March 18th Today is our second game against the Miami Marlins at the local stadium, so again we have a restful morning. We got up and had a nice breakfast, but then settled in for a couple of hours in the room. David actually went down to the pool for a swim this morning, but still had plenty of time to get ready before the bus left at Noon. The game was played in Roger Dean Stadium again and we are happy to report that the Cardinals won again today, this time 4-2 with late heroics in the 8th inning. There was a brief shower in the 4th inning, but it started and ended so quickly that we didn’t really have time to seek shelter – so it ... read more

Detroit Tigers Game - Saturday – March 17th Happy St Patrick’s Day! Most people were dressed in green today and we were wearing Cardinal St Pat shirts from earlier years. But today there was more green than red. Today started with another delicious breakfast. Actually it started with an accident where Janet spilled a cup of hot water on her hand, but she recovered and then we had breakfast. The water problem was resolved last night, so they turned on the juice machine again, so we hade the full repertoire of the menu. But we had to get to eating promptly since the bus was scheduled to leave at 9:00. A couple of people were late showing up, and one person had to run back to get his ticket from his ... read more

Miami Marlins Game - Friday – March 16th Today was a home game against the Marlins, so the bus did not leave until 11:45 which allowed us time in the morning for whatever we wanted. We got up and dressed, and then went down to the breakfast. This time we got omelets made by the cook and David had pancakes too. However the water issue meant they did not have any juice, which was disappointing to David. But the rest of the breakfast was good. Then we sat around and read for a little while before going down to the lobby to mingle with our fellow travelers. Today we wore our matching Spring Training t-shirts which came as souvenirs of the trip. David also wore his free baseball cap, but Janet preferred her floppy ... read more

Boston Red Sox Game - Thursday – March 15th Hello from the Cardinal Travel Tour. We officially joined the tour yesterday evening, but today was the first real event. We started the day with breakfast. Embassy Suites provides a complimentary comprehensive breakfast each morning. Sadly we started at the serving stations and did not recognize there was also a window where you could get your breakfast prepared to your tastes. Today was good but from now on we will have really great breakfasts. Today was a “road game” and we had to catch the bus at 10:00 for our trip to Fort Meyers. The bus ride took about 3 hours, so we are getting a bit tired of buses, but we spent the time chatting with our fellow fans, and watching some ancient reruns ... read more

Arrival in Palm Beach Garden- Wednesday – March 14th Today we slept in until about 8:00, following yesterday’s long adventure. We got up and dressed, and then had breakfast in the hotel. We packed all our belongings and checked out from Ft Lauderdale and headed off to Spring Training. This is actually only about an hour up Interstate-95. We arrived at the Embassy Suites about 10:00. We couldn’t check into our room yet (nothing cleaned up yet), but they allowed us to check our bags into their luggage room, and we were off to Roger Dean Stadium for our first ball game. We actually had some time to kill since the stadium is only about 10 minutes from the hotel, so we drove around and saw what had changed since the ... read more

Key West - Tuesday – March 13th Wow! Another busy day in Florida!! We had a good tour, but it was a very loooooong day. But we are glad to have seen Key West. The day started by us leaving our hotel at 5:45 AM to go to the pickup point and we got back to our room at 10:00 PM. That is why we did not publish anything yesterday. Now we are trying to catch up (being a day behind). We had previously found the hotel where we needed to meet the tour and we had found a 24-hr McDonalds for a drive-thru breakfast. We grabbed breakfast sandwiches (the hotel breakfast did not start until 6:30) and went to the Hilton for our pickup. We actually got there about 20 ... read more

Everglade Safari - Monday – March 12th Wow! What a fantastic day we had today!! We recommend this tour to anyone with a day to spend in Ft Lauderdale. The morning started early because we needed to be at a pickup point about 15 miles from here, by 7:30 in the morning. Fortunately, the hotel breakfast begins at 6:30, so we got up and had a quick meal before going to the pickup. It was still dark as we pulled up (daylight savings time costs you sunlight in the morning) and parked in the lot of a botanical garden (called Flamingo Gardens). David called the company and was told that the bus would be there about 7:45, and it pulled in right at that time. We had to move the car ... read more
