at Jet Blue Park (Red Sox) Boston Red Sox Game - Thursday – March 15
th Hello from the Cardinal Travel Tour. We officially joined the tour yesterday evening, but today was the first real event.
We started the day with breakfast. Embassy Suites provides a complimentary comprehensive breakfast each morning. Sadly we started at the serving stations and did not recognize there was also a window where you could get your breakfast prepared to your tastes. Today was good but from now on we will have really great breakfasts.
Today was a “road game” and we had to catch the bus at 10:00 for our trip to Fort Meyers. The bus ride took about 3 hours, so we are getting a bit tired of buses, but we spent the time chatting with our fellow fans, and watching some ancient reruns of Carol Burnett and Andy of Mayberry on the screen. The bus driver stopped along the way and got some bottles of water and chips, so we had a few snacks before we got to the stadium. We had also taken one of our free back-packs (gifts from the travel company for booking with them) to
Mini Green Monster
Jet Blue Ball Park in Ft Meyers carry our stuff, and it worked fine.
Actually we went to 2 stadiums today, since he made a wrong turn and ended up at the Twins stadium which is in Ft Meyers also. But a quick course correction and we still arrived about an hour before the first pitch (at 2:35). That gave us time to buy some hot dogs for lunch and then find our seats. This is the first year for the Red Sox to use Jet Blue Stadium for their spring training and it is designed to look a lot like Fenway Park in Boston. There is a miniature “green monster” wall in left field, and strangely configured outfield similar to what is in Boston.
We got a small lead and then fell behind. There was a short rain delay and then we made a come-back to win the game. Fortunately we were under the “roof” and was protected from the sun and then also from the rain. Actually there is minimal other covered areas so those without shelter had to work hard to get out of the rain. But that did not really affect us, and it was a brief
Scoreboard
Changing scoreboard at Ft Meyers shower anyway – they only covered the pitcher’s mound and batter’s box, but did not cover the whole infield. Anyway, we were happy to see a WINNER and that made the drive back more enjoyable too.
The group had voted not to stop for a meal on the drive back to the hotel so we had some pizza during the 7
th inning stretch. It wasn’t bad for mass produced pizza, but we weren’t too picky either.
We got back to the hotel a little after 9:00. The normal manager’s reception ended much earlier, but they provided us with “tickets” to present at the bar for an evening cocktail, and most of the group headed that direction from the bus. We actually got a couple of drinks and came up to the room to watch a little of the basketball games and to work on the blog.
We found a note under the door saying that the local water company had issued a boil order but fortunately we have several bottles of water in our room. Tomorrow we may go across the street to the grocery store and get some more and some snacks for the two additional road trips later in the week. But we are back in the room and resting up for another day of fun tomorrow.
