26th Feb The overnight train was really good. We had a cabin shared with the 2 Norwegian girls on our trip, Karoline and Stine. The cabin had a flat screen t.v. and really comfortable beds, it were great. We arrived in a little bit late, at 6am and once we were at the hotel our rooms weren't ready so we set out for breakfast. The weather was amazing, really hot so we sat by the pool well Kim did, i messed about in the pool as i didn't want to get burnt like i did in Sihanoukville. Once our rooms were ready it was nearly lunch so we got showered. After lunch we sat on the beach and sunbathed a little bit more. That night was one of the best experiences iv'e ever had, Dara took ... read more

Sorry we've not updated for a while, been busy seeing sights. 23rd Feb So we arrived into Vietnam after a 4 hour bus ride, and a sly dollar slipped into our passport as a bribe. it didn't take long to get to our first destination in Vietnam, the small town of Chau Doc lies in the Mekong delta and there isn't really much to do here, so we opted for a motorbike tour up to the viewing point above the city to watch the sunset. It was great fun flying in and out of the traffic. Unfortunately there was no sunset, it just kind of disappeared into the mist the path up to the top was really steep and the speed that they went up was at first a little bit frightening, especially as the corners ... read more

Saturday 19th Feb The day was spent travelling from Siem Reap to Phnom Penh, a lovely 7 hour journey!! The journey was pretty uneventful, just continuous views of roads, fields, trees etc. We had a quick check-in and then we got a tuk tuk to a restaurant by the river which is owned by a local orphanage. The orphans performed traditional dances and all the profits from the meal went towards funding the orphanage. They wore colourful outfits and used coconut shells to clap. Afterwards we went to a bar next to the hotel where pitchers of beer cost just $2! Surprisingly for a Saturday night, the bar closed at 11.30pm so we were forced to go home early Sunday 20th Feb Still in Phnom Penn, we spent the morning at the Russian Markets. There were ... read more

Hi, The 17th began with a 4 hour journey to the border, our crossing point was Poipet. We jumped off our lovely air-conned mini-bus and made our way across, our bags had already been taken across by a local and his cart, it was hot and sticky as we stood at the Thai departures line, luckily it was early enough for it to be quiet so our wait wasn't too long. We crossed the bridge into Cambodia and the form filling began. health questionnaire's and arrival information was supplied and we were in! Next was a bus to Siem Reap, it took only a few hours and we stopped off for lunch on the way, we both had Lokke Lak beef with rice. A nice beer washed it down. We are staying at Angkor PHC, its ... read more

Monday 14th Feb I think the combination of nerves, excitement and malaria tablets were the cause of the comedic start to our trip. About 10 minutes into the journey to the airport me and Dan began to feel sick. We both ended up taking it turns being sick into a bag while my mum tried with great difficulty to drive us to the airport without being sick herself. Great start! Before we left, we were joking how funny it would be if we ran into someone we knew from home on the other side of the world. However we didn't actually think it would happen! So Daniel was certainly surprised when we reached Doha and the owner of the local chippy came to say hello! Tuesday 15th Feb Our arrival at Bangkok went smoothly, my bag ... read more

...WE LAND IN BANGKOK Really really excited now! With less than three weeks now till we fly its all getting going, vaccinations are nearly complete for me and kim is fully covered, Just malaria left to arrange and purchase. With this comes the problem of whether to go cheap and risk side-effects or go expensive and miss out on possible side-effects. To be honest i've not even had a think as to how many we need. Only a few things left to buy for our travelling kit. Mainly little things mind, all of the bigger items such as mosquito nets and clothing were given to us as presents over christmas (Thank you very much everyone!) Organising everything is becoming a big thing. luckily since the start ive kept everything in one book and used that, so ... read more
