The internal flight up from Christchurch was easy enough, and we got through the rental procedure of our Apollo Hi-Top camper without any kerfuffle. So far so good with them guys, but obviously the real telling of a rental company is when you return the thing! We picked it up in a rainy Auckland Airport at around midday and set about travelling first to the northern tip of the North Island. Driving out of Auckland, with the dramatic beauty of the South Island fresh in our minds, we were somewhat disheartened to be cruising through pretty bland countryside. All that, however, changes as you move away from Auckland itself and head into the wilderness.
