postcard I'm glad the postcard arrived! I have to say cockerals and chickens are about all I can draw and paint these days. I used to do a good Ringo Starr too in the olden days... My school books were full of Ringo Starrs and chickens.

great stuff! glad to hear all going well....sorry about noisy jets, maybe you can practise a few Hungarian expletives.....and make up a new Uke song to boot....or to mansandals. We're both well, lots of love mub xxxxx
We've received your postcard today - many thanks! I've stuck it on the wall behind Jose's desk so that we can all admire it :) Your cockeral looks very nice and colourful, have you painted many of them before? ;)
Thanks Arch! You are too kind - when I re-read it I was kind of depressed, but maybe it's not so bad after all.
Now a hip flask sounds like a great idea! I think it would look good in combination with my Swiss Army Knife and Mansandals. I think I'll seek one out in Budapest and fill it with plum brandy.

Not boring at all! In fact, it was rather gripping. The smoke; the mysterious announcements over the tannoy; the possible evacuation and fifteen mile trek; the harried ticket inspector; the grumpy, Budapest-bound passengers...
Good thing you had your ukulele to restore calm and equilibrium after such a day.
I might suggest that you add a hip flask full of gin or whisky to your kit bag in case this sort of thing happens again...
Hello Hilke, No worries - I really don't expect everyone to read every word I write as most of it's rubbish anyway! I hope you enjoy a quiet JTC office - it can be quite pleasant, but possibly quite dull!
The course is going ok - I'll do a catch up blog in the next couple of days, but not a great deal going on. It's hot and sunny that's the main thing.

Hey Ols and everyone! Good to hear from you and the geese! I hope Ben is making a good recovery - I'm sure with the help of nurse Oliver all will soon be healed!
Everything's good hear in Budapest, nice to be settled in one place for a couple of weeks...

Ducks Looks like the little ducky river empties into the Rhine, which does indeed head out to the seathe North Sea! (I checked a map.) Little ducks evacuate their land-locked livelihoods.
Spelling: promentary = promontory

Yay - glad you joined the fun! It has been ace and now I'm settling into the Hungarian way of life which is also great. I wish August would go on a bit longer!
Hope all's well with family Max...

She was shaped like a bus and had no controll over her frontage or her handbag - it was quite disconcerting and I had to keep my backpack on at all times as a shield against her cavalry.
It's funny I checked in the dictionary and you and my mum are both right about tunnel. I was convinced it was tunnle. Apparently funnel and channel also have that strange ending too. I have some issues that I need to deal with here. I think its because I clutter my brain with Hungarian and stuff. I bet you don't know how to spell tunnel in Hungarian, why would you want to... But if you ask nicely I'll tell you. It's a good word.

Hi Patsy, you and Heidi should definitely go to Switzerland some time if you haven't been - Piora was really beautiful and it was definitely the right time of year for flowers...
Cx
Awww... "Heidi" is my wife's name, so or course, the story "Heidi" always figured prominently, if occasionally, in our time together!
I love your travelogue, Clare. I feel like I'm walking along with you, about to pick a pretty flower just before I slip and slide down a ravine, klutz that I am.
Can't think of a snappy title for this comment... Nobody ever prods me with their huge breasts whilst standing in line. I wish they would.
Tunnel! Tunnel!!!
You're doing it on purpose, aren't you?
At last I found you Sorry it has taken me so long to find your blog. I have just gobbled up the whole lot in one big gollop and really pissed off my brother in law (who is sitting opposite me on his computer) by snorting tea through my nose at hime every time I laugh. Sounds like you are having a fantastic time. Enjoy the course. love Anna xxx
Meteoric That's rightit's been Perseid season. Too cloudy round here to see anything, though.
The ugliness of tourists comes from their behavior, of course. From what I know of you and by your blog, you'd be one of the pretty tourists, so no worries about offending the locals!
Ciao Arturo!
That's where I got the inspiration to do it on the uke in the first place - although my fingerings aren't quite as impressive. He plays a lot across the strings so it really rings out, I've tried to copy as much as I can, but some are just beyond me still. It's the one thing I missed about viola (yeah, I know what you think of violas, but just shut up!) was playing those Bach suites, so now I'm going to see if I can do some on the uke... Cx
Hi Mub,
The bites have all gone down now - I had bought some Anthisan with me, funnily enough, but they still itched like mad. Switzerland doesn't have any though, if they do they kept their distance...

This is all about my travels on trains (and the odd boat and bus) through Europe with my ukulele... night train episodes, Rocky outcrop serenades, hip flask fueled antics, invisible ICE trains, ukulele cabaret appearances, funiculars and linguistic prowess. The lone traveller tells her tales from France, Italy, Hungary, Germany, Finland, Sweden and Norway.... full info
