Well here we go again back in travelling mode. This time no months of planning , no build up of excitement, yes I know its only a tiny winy trippette but you would think there might be a tingle somewhere! Perhaps it will explode hopefully very soon! I Arrived in Delhi on Wednesday morning (10th( after an eight hour overnight sleepless flight. But managed to catch up on three films so that was a bonus. I wasn’t sure what to expect so it was rather a surprise that the airport is brand spanking new, and the surrounding area is under massive development - must be the 8% GDP that India enjoys. My first afternoon I actually spent by the pool relaxing , I was to meet the rest of the group early that evening , and ... read more

North America » United States » Texas » Dallas February 15th 2010

If the Grand canyon was Indian country then Dallas, Texas is cowboy country and home of JR, Sue Ellen and Pamela. It had been snowing pretty hard the previous couple of days to our arrival and it was touch and go whether our flight would make it . But make it ,it did, and Geoffrey Our friend of many years was there to meet us. His home is lovely and what made Lucy‘s day is that he has a Springer spaniel called jenny who is very delicious! We had to have a welcome drink as you do and it was almost compulsory to continue - Oh my god not sure I was going to survive the next couple of days! We had a great Mexican meal - it‘s so good when friends live in major cities ... read more

North America » United States » Arizona » Sedona February 11th 2010

Well we are in cowboy and Indian country, the wild west where many battles were fought, the pioneers made their presence felt and films galore have been made. If the smile was still on my face, then it would widen considerably in awe, as we saw for the first time the grand canyon . What a sight and how beautiful it was . Our journeys to the canyon where we stayed for 2 days and then on to Sedona some 150 miles to the south, were a bit of an adventure. The weather conditions chanege very quickly in this part of the world , we were travelling between 5- 6000 feet and one minute we were in fine conditions the next it got pretty scarry with with heavy snow falls coming so fast we could hardly ... read more

North America » United States » Nevada » Las Vegas February 8th 2010

Blimey Pimey, oh my, where am I . Viva las Vegas This has to be the most over the top , glitzy, brash, noisy and fascinating city I have ever visited and that is saying something. Al and I weren’t fussed whether we came or not , well am I glad we did. We arrived on Saturday evening after a long days drive from San Francisco over 9 hours in the car with Lucy and me sharing the driving. We passed through ever changing countryside from the fertile fruit and farming lands of the valleys to the rolling hills as we turned east inland, and then onto deserts and the start of the Serra Nevada. Saturday night in LV is show night as well as gaming eating and general fun night , as is every night ... read more

Where am I?!

Well we finally left San Francisco a day later than planned after a bit of a health scare from Mr Winch . Thankfully he seems fine and Lucy found her way out of the city and in the right direction for the Rockies and the Sierra nevada.. She and I shared the driving and after what seemed a rather tortuous route going east, south, north, and east again, through the bread basket region of california, we did arrive at the south gate of Yosemite National Park and our beautiful Lodge.. We had to acquire snow chains as it is law to have them in this part of the world. The forecast for the next few days was snow!!!. It grew steadily colder as we ventured higher into the hills and snow began to appear all around ... read more

North America » United States » California » San Francisco February 3rd 2010

We arrived in San Francisco on Sunday early evening . We shared the driving still keeping to highway 1. The route was not quite as spectacular as the day before but nevertheless, a joy to see. Lucy was a star and not only manoeuvred her way around LA but drove us through San Francisco with Al navigating , to our hotel right on Fisherman’s wharf - the place to be. We didnt eat there as it just seemed to be stalls and we were late and it was smelly! But we ate on Pier 39 that night , it was rather touristy but the food was surprisingly good. We only had 3 nights and two days which on reflection was not enough. We spent Monday trying to do all the main things which was impossible. In ... read more

How wonderful to meet up with Al and Lou in LA after a long flight and four films later!! I left on Tuesday afternoon and arrived on Tuesday morning , this international date line thing is doing my head in! But no rest for me , we took off in our hired 4 wheel drive - Al was conned into taking a much bigger car than we needed , they said we needed more luggage space - can you believe it! We headed for Santa Monica and it was like Blackpool , and it rained , and Al was driving, and it took us ages to get there , LA is a devil to navigate , few road signs and no sat nav. But still we had a grand late lunch and what made Lou's day ... read more

Oceania » New Zealand » North Island » Auckland January 25th 2010

As I prepare to leave New Zealand and the Southern hemisphere and make my way to meet Al and Lucy in LA , I am excited. It has been over three months since we left one another in Hong Kong. He was not well and I was so worried about him. Things have moved on, he is recovered and now I am about to experience the last leg of my tour with him and Lou I do feel a little sad at leaving, it has been awesome , as the ozzies say. But I have some amazing memories and the pictures to go with them! My time with Anji ( & Les) in Malaysia ( not all south of the equator but just as hot !) was grand we had such fun . Oceania » Cook Islands » Rarotonga January 22nd 2010

I know what you are thinking where are the Cook islands and why did she choose them to visit ? The 15 Cook Islands are to be found scattered over some 2 million square klms of ocean extending from 9 degrees south of the equator to just north of the tropic of Capricorn in the mighty Pacific . They are flanked to the west by Tonga and Samoa and to the east by Tahiti and the flight from Auckland to Rorotonga , the capital and main island takes around 3 .5 hours by convention jets These are idyllic places embracing coral atolls and rugged volcanic islands east of NZ. They are the stuff that dreams are made from and the scandal of Captain Cook and Bligh is deep in its history. Not with standing all of ... read more

Oceania » New Zealand » South Island » Christchurch January 18th 2010

It is difficult to describe my feelings about this tour. I would not knowingly have chosen it., I obviously didn’t read the small print or realised that it was going to be so big. At times it was noisy , slow and frustrating with ques and stops at large tourist cafes/restaurants /gift shops which if one was travelling in a smaller group , wouldn’t be given a second glance.. We were herded like good sheep to and from the bus and from place to place often with little time to enjoy where we did stop, and then whizzing past those we would have liked to have had time.. Of course any tour large or small has to keep to a time line but on this one it was totally inflexible. Our hotels were mostly not particularly ... read more
