I do not know what I would be able to do in and around the city of Melbourne without Natalie. She has been such a great tour guide. She has taken the time off from school to show me around to all of these wonderful places for my entire time in Australia. If she were not here, this trip would cost a fortune. Luckily, she has the time and a car to show me all of her favorite places. The City. As some of you may know, I am not a city person. I now attribute this to the fact that I have not spent time in any good cities. (Bogota, Colombia was pretty killer though) Melbourne has been a new world for me. Although Natalie has explained its intricacies to me over the years, lets ... read more

Oceania » Australia » Victoria » Mornington Peninsula June 12th 2011

A big part of this portion of my trip through Australia is to see where Natalie grew up and experience the country. The other part is to meet people. This includes Natalie's family and all of Natalie's friends . I got a big introduction on Day 1 with her parents. Day 2, I got thrown under the bus with a "couple's getaway" to the Mornington Peninsula with 3 other couples. I just love the idea of a "couple's getaway" (sarcasm). It was with 3 of Natalie's high school friends and their boyfriends/husbands. It was a bit strange at first, but everyone turned out to be very nice and the weekend provided no meltdowns. We were staying in a brand new beach home, decked out to be somewhat of a party place. We were treated to great ... read more

Ever thought you could beat jet lag? How about when you fly to the other side of the planet? Maybe I am cocky, maybe I am full of confidence. Whatever it was, it was not enough. I failed. I thought I could drink coffee and watch movies on the flight until I reached about 10 pm Australian time (6 am MST) then sleep for a solid 8 hours and wake up refreshed, ready to explore this new country. It was a solid plan on paper, but executed terribly. Instead of sleeping, I just stayed awake and ended up rocking a total of 1.5 - 2 hours of sleep over the course of about 40. Its time to tie up all loose ends and pack my bags. I am heading out into the beautiful world again. My job goes into hiatus for 2 months as I set out to explore a new frontier. It is always sad to leave behind such a wonderful place as Steamboat Springs, but it will be waiting for me upon my return....hopefully. Steamboat has a Colorado state record for its snowpak and everyone is worried about potential flooding. Luckily my apartment is on the second floor! My new adventure is going to take me to the otherside of the planet. Where north is south and south is north, or something like that. My first stop, besides long layovers in Denver and LAX, is Melbourne, Australia. I finally get to meet the lovely Natalie's parents and see ... read more

Central America Caribbean » Guatemala October 11th 2009

Leaving Honduras turned out to be the best move I have made all trip. Just days after leaving the country´s president Zelaya was allowed back in and the country went into turmoil. Borders were closed, curfews were put back into place, and the possibility of having all human rights stripped were very real. None of this mattered to Natalie and I though because we were home free in the colonial city of Antigua. Cobblestone streets displayed under the large expanse of a big volcano with expenisve tourist shops on one side and cheap local markets on the other. It was almost too good to be true. Until now, we had not been in such an interesting city. This place is a great holiday for anyone´s budget, but even better for those with medium-large wallets on a ... read more

Bus after bus and sweat drenched bodies crammed in vans with no air conditioning or open windows we made it to the capital city Teguicigalpa, Honduras. We had no real plans to stay here for more than a night because of the said dangers, but we stretched one night into two and enjoyed our short time here. It was an expensive two days, but as we would find out shortly, Honduras became an expensive holiday across the board. We had to take taxis from place to place beause it was not safe to walk anywhere, but around the air conditioned mall. We spent an entire day walking it, drinking coffee, and seeing a movie. It was our third or fourth movie of the trip, but rising prices of movie tickets in the USA make our movie ... read more

I am sorry for the delay in blog posts, but it was because I was having a great time and the internet services were expensive and slow. When I left you last I was heading to the city of Leon. We spent little time here, but really enjoyed the street markets and cheap movie theaters. FYI dont see the movie GI Joe. We were awake bright and early on our first day here by explosions over our hostel/city. We thought maybe someone was invading the city and we were kind of on edge, but it turns out we showed up for the first day of a month long festival. We spent one more day here and were awoken again at 5 am to a mariachi band playing directly outside our hostel door. They were celebrating the ... read more

Well we made it...just barely. Our trip´s first problem arised within 5 minutes of reaching the airport. The lady at the counter who punches all the keys, seems to know what shes doing, but truly doesnt told us that without proof of our leaving Costa Rica, she could not let us on the flight. Natalie and I only had one way tickets, but we have return flights from Mexico City a few months into the future. Apperently a flight from another country is not sufficient for the lady as proof that we will be leaving Costa Rica. They dont want us flying down there and overstaying our VISAs. So she had us freaking out trying to buy international bus tickets online out of Costa Rica. Well that is really difficult to do especially when you are ... read more

North America » United States August 20th 2009

Welcome to my new travel blog. Some of you took the time and followed me on my last adventure and some of you are new. As many of you know I took my first big solo adventure through much of South America two years ago. Since my return I have worked hard at finding ways to escape the real world and afford to get myself back on the road. It began with moving to Steamboat Springs. You might remember that I met a special girl while traveling last time. Somehow I convinced her to come to the United States and live with me for the year. (I think it was the ski season in Steamboat that really pulled her in) Anyway, Natalie came all the way from Australia on a 1 year Visa and we have ... read more

Sniff...Sniff....Sniff As sad as it is, my trip came to an end. It has been two months since I last wrote and to be honest its because I really couldn't be bothered with writing this travelblog. Tons did happen since the last entry though. For a quick recap: After Paraguay, I went back to Buenos Aires to meet up with Dad and Jeff to get a flight to the southern tip of the civilized world, Ushuaia, Argentina. We were to embark on a 10 day Patagonia trip in style. The flight was business/first class and I was drinking champagne while wearing a smelly, ripped, and repaired orange t-shirt as other passengers filed past me. It was classic. I did read the newspaper so I would look sophisticated, but all of you know that just isn't the ... read more
