Going back to Phi Phi two years after the tsunami was a strange feeling. While there were many normal holiday-makers there like us, there were also a lot of families in the area mourning family members lost two years before. While the island had changed a lot in terms of less trees and some evidence of the devastation, it was remarkably put back together again. The reggae bar was up and running again with its nightly kick-boxing fights, and the viewpoint was still as gorgeous as ever. It was surreal to think of the tragedy that happened just two years prior.

Scott and I have always been travellers at heart. We first met on the beach in Spain in 1995 and had what we thought was "just a holiday romance". We met again briefly a year later in Salzburg, Austria and then a few years later in Hawaii. At the time, I was working in Japan, and Scott was back in California after his two years in Barcelona, Spain.
