Keep up the great writing.
It looks like you two are having the time of your lives. I stumbled upon your journal writings while surfing around on this website. I must say I spent many hours reading and following your travels around the world today while at work. Keep it up, you are doing a great job.

shark point on Phi Phi
Maybe we just got lucky but it was around 9.30 - 10am when we saw sharks, so not so early really. The day we saw them we were only staying a few minutes walk away though. Not sure I'd have had the courage to swim out so far if I'd had to trek over the rocks for 45 mins to get there.

Wow!
It's just like you described it to us! Maybe we should have made our way there! Next trip!

Apartheid Schools
hey you 2, great to see your pics of south africa. i spent a year there way back in 1978, arriving a couple of months after steve biko had been tortured to death. you've brought back some wonderful memories. we both have virulent doses of travel lust and restlessness at the moment. i've been looking at my photos of our year on the road, and feeling terribly desk bound. so it's great to see your pics of somewhere that means a lot to me, changed though it is now. i visited some schools when i was living there---it was during the depths of the apartheid years, when even the most fearful recognised that the system had failed. what amazed me was that, in all that hardship and deprivation, all purposeful, and the Bantu knew it, of course, was that will to get an education. i met some amazing black South Africans who had somehow managed, mostly through willpower, to put themselves through university. anyway, better get back to work. ugh! happy trails.

Black Tip Reef Sharks
I don't remember seeing them on Lipe, but if we all go back to Phi Phi I am definitely interested in getting up for the shark snorkel on Hat Yao (Long Beach) as we still have never made it in time!

Great White Shark!!
I think I'll be content to watch black tipped reef sharks with you, much more relaxing! Are we likely to see any around Ko Lipe in February? Mum xx

Always some new place to discover
Yes I know what you mean about leaving a country having the feeling you've not quite covered it all. That's how we felt when we left you behind in Malaysia and you 'discovered' Kapas. Oh well there's always next year. Mum xx

Hope so!
Those mantas had better be waiting for us!!! We might try to see the little (big!) suckers on the Similan/Surin trip again...
9th December 2007

You are Jinxed...
....when it comes to seeing Manta Rays!! But, wow - a whale shark, cannot even begin to imagine how amazing that must have been. Besides, am sure the Manta's will be waiting for you in Thailand.

Finally Advanced!
The diving sounded great. Especially the Thistledorm. You never know maybe on our third visit to sharm we might get to do some diving (if I can keep paul out of hospital!) Looks like you're still having a great time. Let me know how you really think Egypt compares to diving in the rest of the world.

Wow!
Sharon, I have to admit to being slightly envious of your travels. When you told me back in 2000 that you were leaving the bank to tour the world for a year I never thought (I'm guessing neither did you) that you'd still be doing it 7 years later. It's nice to see what you've been upto. In case you're wondering who this is - my last name used to be Mottershead. Take care, and best wishes to yourself and Scott. (Yes, I remember Scott you spoke of him often after your trip to Spain - good job I wasn't the jealous type!).

Hi mum and dad,
Maybe Christmas in Thailand?...
4th November 2007

P.S.
The hotel we had lined up for you in Shark's Bay was way nicer than the hut you were staying in, 3 star in fact!! Air-con, 2 pools and a quiet stretch of beach. Shame it didn't work out this time. We'll keep trying! Mum

Sounds like you're going down in sympathy with Dad, unfortunatly he didn't recover so quickly. Sounds like you're having a good time without us anyway. Maybe we'll catch up with you again sometime. Living in hopes, Mum xxxx

Great Choice!
Hi Sharon, Thank you for the travel updates. It's so good to hear from you and to live vicariously through your travel writings. I've been meaning to write since the one last week, but, of course, have been swamped with getting back to school. Our routine is more prepping classroom/meeting/prepping classroom/meeting. As fun as the kids are, I think I'd prefer the sunbathe/snorkel pattern. Looks like you made a great choice for this year. Happy traveling! Christine P.S. There was some rearrangement of classes when we got back, so these are your little cherubs that I have this year: Yvette, Ryan, Vladimir, and Marc.

Hi There!
Hi Scott and Sharon, Just checking in with y'all to see how the travels are. The pictures of the Tiger Temple looks really cool. Hope you are having a great time in Africa (if you are still in Africa). Things are going great in SB. The fire is contained and the weather is great and the kids are back in school (hurray!!).
