Last day of an amazing holiday. We went a little way into the Troodos mountains where the scenery is wonderful, just the foothills this trip. Last year we went up to the top, to the snow line and across to the north coast. Stopped at Monagri where the scent from the citrus fruit trees will stay with me forever. Then on to Lofou a tiny villlage with streets so narrow the tiny car barely made it through. Absolutely loved this little place, in the middle of nowhere too. The buildings all so old and such timeless beauty. Had a wonderful lunch of deep fried Haloumi in a carob syrup with honey and sesami seeds. It was sooooooo good. Back to Limassol via the Kouris Dam where the low water levels bear witness to the lack of ... read more

Middle East » Cyprus » Larnaca April 15th 2024

Larnaka today. We took the motorway to get there, very easy and all the major roads are really good. Our only 'road' problem is the tiny scale of our tourist maps which don't necessarily show when a road is unpaved. We try to avoid those. Satnav handily took us to a free big parking area behind the Marina. The one we meant to go to was charged so well done to the Satnav. Larnaka beach is beautifully sandy and about a mile long with a promenade with eating places liningall along the back. We chose the sea route and paddled all the way to the centre. The sea is really shallow. People were metres and metres out and still only up to their knees. A major seaside resort with row upon row of occupied sunbed... read more

Chill by the pool day today as the main Beach Road from here to Limassol old town and marina was closed until mid afternoon for the Limassol marathon. There were ways out via the back roads but really about time we caught some of the glorious sunshine, cornflower blue sky and swimming pool so we did just that. I woke at dawn, grabbed my camera .. and a towel for modesty ... and went to watch the sunrise from the balcony. Magic. We watched a few of the marathon runners from the end of the hotel road which was indeed blocked off for vehicular access to the Beach road the runners were using. Quite a few hotel guests were running though some just doing the 10k half. 10 metre would be all I could manage sadly ... read more

Middle East » Cyprus » Lefkara April 13th 2024

Super day today with some beautiful Cypriot scenery and a gorgeous village, Lefkara. Then a monastery, Agios Minas. My nose will forever be filled with the scent of the lemon trees which pervaded the village followed by oranges at the monastery and glorious flowers everywhere. I did get berated by the lady in the Lefkara church for wearing shorts and not covering my legs with the skirtsprovided ...( Which I didn't see as I went to the right and they were in the middle ). Bob's bare legs were acceptable. And the sound of the bees in the monastery was amazing.. they were swarming into a hole in one of the buildings. We bought a jar of their honey and it is absolulely delicious..And I should mention that we were not best pleased with our Tomtom which decided ... read more

Middle East » Cyprus » Limassol April 11th 2024

Easy 10am flight on the 10th April from East Midlands Airport via Jet2 to Larnaca. Our pickup there turned out to be a private taxi as there was only the two of us to go West to Limassol. It seems most people went East, direction of Aya Napa. Very pleasant to have a taxi to ourselves and straight there with no other dropoffs on the way. We are staying at the lovely Atlantic Miramare Hotel. It's on the beach. We have a superior sea view room, extra big and a stunning view round the bay and across the sea from our balcony. No hire car until tomorrow but all organised for one to be delivered to the hotel tomorrow morning. We are as always only booked bed and breakfast as we plan to eat out everynight ... read more

Europe » United Kingdom » Wales » Gwynedd » Snowdon August 31st 2023

31st August 2023 Llanberis Pass We set off in the opposite direction to yesterday heading for Llanberis. langollen. Didn’t intend to but went by way of Betys-Y-Coed as the Sat Nav decided that was the way to go. Fortunate really as Sat Nav took us down a road, to save ¼ mile, which we absolutely do not want to take tomorrow with the caravan behind. We should have followed the A5 but took one of Wale’s goat track aka roads instead. The caravan would not have fitted over the bridge at the end before we got onto the A5. Straight through Betys which was full of tourists, some looking a bit miserable as the Welsh drizzle was the wet sort. Then we took a turn to Llanberis as we were nearing some quite dramatic and scenic ... read more

Europe » United Kingdom » Wales » Denbighshire » Llangollen August 30th 2023

After a little deliberation as to which direction to take we headed for Llangollen. Remind me never ever to come away without the road atlas in future. It really does challenge our abililty to plan the route to whereever we are going, The Satnav is fine except it does like to take us on roads which we would prefer not to be on. There are some exceedingly narrow roads here in Wales with wonky stone walls on either side and many blind hair pin bends. Quite often we have had to breath in in order for the vehicle coming the other way to get past. Fortunately we have only had the car to consider. A couple of roads we used went across bridges with low walls on either side which would have grabbed the Caravan if ... read more

Time to leave the Lynn Peninsula and the sea for Bala lake in Snowdonia.. All hitched up and sorted. Getting practicised at checking everything on and in the caravan to be secure before moving off. We have of course always done that in the motorhome but in the motorhome you can see if a door has been left open and leap up to shut it. The caravan interior is out of sight and sound when we are towing it so have to be much for careful before setting off. As usual, car wing mirror extensions were the last thing remembered and fitted just as we left. All good, though really the roads on the peninsula and anywhere else we have been in Wales, really could do with a little widening in places. We passed through one ... read more

Europe » United Kingdom » Wales » Gwynedd » Nefyn August 27th 2023

More beach exploration today. This time the West coast of this little peninsula. It isn’t very big, not many miles long and in several spots we have been able to see the sea on both sides and at the foot. But getting along the roads is a different matter. 5 miles can easily take 25 minutes. There are no straight roads and we laugh when the Sat Nav says follow this road straight for the next two miles 😊. Plus, many stretches of road are, if not actually single track, not wide enough for a line down the middle. We have spent many minutes since arriving here, sitting patiently squished into a hedge to let another perfectly normal sized car get past. We are a little disappointed not to find pretty little villages in this area. ... read more
