Today was all about the funeral of our wonderful Queen Elizabeth ll. We couldn’t be there but we have the laptop and I made sure we had a reliable wifi signal (thanks to the kind campsite reception who supplied me with a special sign on 😊) so we could watch the broadcast by the BBC. Before it began I took a stroll along to the little marina just by the campsite. An absolutely stunning morning which surely lifted the soul. We spent nearly all the day watching the funeral. The procession to Westminster Abbey, the service there and then the procession from there to Windsor Castle. Quite a long drive today and most of the way on the motorway. Seemed to be right across Switzerland, East to West but Switzerland is a very funny shape with lots of bits sticking out in all directions if you look at it on the map. It rained all night exactly as forecast and sure enough when we looked out at the mountains to the East, those we had just come down from, there was snow showing on some of the peaks. So glad we made the decision to come down on Thursday as we did. If we had been up the mountain in the night the way that rain was coming down in a very wintery way, I would have spent the night at the window checking if we were getting snowed on and in. ... read more

Today was planned to be a day of leisure as we seem to have been dashing somewhere every day so far. A shower, leisurely breakfast, stroll along the fields beyond the campsite and maybe a coffee in Churwalden village. It rained, as forecast, in the night and the campsite looked rather spectacular when we woke with lumps of white cloud hanging around over everything. It did rather reinforce the idea that the weather really was changing as rain was forecast and rain it did. Sometimes we change our plans. I had been checking the weather and though I knew we were expecting rain and possible thunderstorms in the next couple of days, Snow was not on my agenda. First time down the Lenzerheide pass to Chur in Smart Arse and it coped very well. Some very tight hair pin bends but at least, on the way there at least, it was downhill all the way. We headed first for the station as wanted to check the way there and parking facilities ready for train rides later in the week. We drive right through the bus station, which is also part train station as the train to Arosa sets off through the streets rather than the standard train rails which run from within the Bahnhof behind. Moving on to another lake, Wallensee. Or we had intended to anyway. Not a long drive just following Lake Lucerne along the first part of the Northern bank and then heading back up towards Zug then to the bottom of Lake Zurich. From there we used the motorway and it was quite busy, especially being a Sunday, but a pleasant drive. Some of the scenery is spectacular driving along a lake or valley with mountains rising sheer on either side. In Switzerland we have a motorway sticker in the windscreen. Pretty expensive and we had to buy two, one for the motorhome and one for Smart Car but it means there are no toll booths.
