21st March Feeling guilty for leaving Charlotte with a very sick little Arthur but then an uneventful journey down to Fareham for a night’s stay before an early start to the ferry. 22nd March After a stormy night up early & off to the ferry terminal. We obviously looked shifty as we were directed to the customs shed for a ‘search’! The Customs woman was enormous, asked for a step to get in the side door - which is no more than 15” off the ground. Tough, we don’t have one.. She couldn’t fit through the door but just made it sideways despite her enormous attributes. We keep a spare wheel in the area near the door & she couldn’t step over it! She soon gave up after a couple of cursory questions & opening of ... read more

3rdSeptember Last day in Brittany! Meant to say yesterday that we both nearly stood on a young viper yesterday on the coastal path. It had obviously come out from the heather for the sunshine, we disturbed it & it was going back into cover. I took the phone out & scrambled round to get a picture (see yesterday's); having snapped it I discovered another snake rather a lot bigger...having married a little nest of vipers I didn't want to stand on another so legged it back to the path haha! Did the washing as the forecast looked ok, updated the blog, had lunch then cycled around again & down to the beach where we watched youngsters on sand yachts in the sunshine. We came back as it looked like rain which it did shortly after our ... read more

30thSlept late after a disturbed night & woke to thick mist & fog which cleared to reveal a beautiful day. We didn't do much – just sat in the sunshine, read our books & Cathy even caught a few zzz's in the chair... 31st A chilly start to the day again & we had a late breakfast then took the bikes out down unexplored lanes & around to the beach then back up the hill home. It got brighter so we walked back down the beach & decided to have moules frites at a lean to cafe opposite run by 3 hippy types, 2 girls & a chap all jolly friendly. The meal was lovely & they used thyme as a seasoning in the moules & on the frites. This was grand at the time but ... read more

28thAnother grim morning but a pleasant afternoon so took the bikes out past the local beach, up a steep hill & we found a little path off the coastal path that led down to a very treacherous point by the sea. There were stunning caves which echoed the boom of the waves hitting the back walls – I dare say that they'll become arches over time. A couple of fishermen were on another point half a mile away, a kayak was moving slowly moving through the swell – that was life that afternoon by the sea. We had a bite to eat & carried on round the roads back to the beach, watched life go by then headed back for tea. A German van had turned up & despite having the whole site to choose from, ... read more

Ha – the pc just changed 'mer' to merangue! I digress... A short hop north to our next campsite but first we visited the hypermarket for supplies & then went south to visit Rospico where we used to take the children when they were young. It hasn't changed one bit save for a new, pretty little cottage on top of a low cliff & brought back so many memories. We had lunch on a picnic blanket near the rocks & had a paddle – the water was freezing! We'd forgotten how cold the Atlantic is especially compared to the Adriatic & the Med. Found our next campsite easily enough, then the temperature started to drop & it showered into the evening but we ate outside anyway under the awning. The forecast wasn't great so we put ... read more

It's been very mixed weather but thankfully not much rain. Either hot sunny days or just overcast. We've bumbled about doing all sorts & meeting our neighbours. Across the way is a lady from Paris who used to run a tabac / cafe with her husband who died 3 years ago. She talks for France whether you understand her or not – I helped her out with her caravan door twice as she couldn't lock it & was called 'le gentil anglais' from then on. Next to us was who we called Gruntyman – he had some form of nervous tic & he grunted to himself ALL the time & especially when he was concentrating. On the other side was a young family – 3 children with one due in October...blimey! He worked for HSBC in ... read more

So, what have we been up to? Well the weather has been very up & down, mainly down! It has been mainly chilly, raining & the odd ray of sunshine; however we've been out & about on the bikes quite a bit. We went into Fouesnant one day for shopping. Another day we cycled all the way across the coastal path to the other side of the peninsular where there were virtually deserted beaches. On Friday we took the little multi coloured ferry to Concarneau for the day & had a lovely day out. It hasn't changed an awful lot since we used to take the children 25ish years ago; we walked around the morning market stalls & bought some lovely dried 'sausage' to bring home & after that we found a lovely restaurant where we ... read more

It rained for most of the night but it wasn't too heavy..but it continued for most of the morning too so we read & dozed, had lunch & when it brightened up a bit & we walked the 500m to the coast & had a wander & watched a couple of people fishing. Cathy actually wore jeans & a fleece – cool rather than cold. So, we're here for a while so will repost when I feel like buying more wifi...... read more

First stop, L'Eclerc which was open now of course. Tyre pressures checked, fill up with fuel & off on what was quite a long journey but pleasant enough. We thought that we would see lots of GB plated cars as we got closer to the coast but we only saw 5. Brittany used to be full of Brits when we used to take the children when they were young – it's now full of ..French. Bet you thought I was going to say Dutch – didn't see one. We have now travelled 6,995 miles or c.11,658km for those running metric... We arrived at the site which is pleasant enough but mainly statics – nice ones though & not a shanty town at all. We've booked in here for 13 nights so intend to do a fair ... read more
