The space needle is cool. 600 feet up in the air, great view and you can get a beer up there. I bought an early pass and got up there early. There was still quite a few tourists up there and I hated them all. Selfie sticks and the inability to understand when you are in someone's way. Tourism! It was still an amazing experience and I walked by the needle a few hours later and the place was way more crowded. Going up there early was great and I really enjoyed the view. I got a deal. The space needle and the glass garden for once price. The glass garden is just how it sounds, picture that ceiling at the Bellagio but in a much more nature and beautiful setting. It was cool and I ... read more

So I am not sure where to begin... This was a long, productive day. After going to bed early on Wednesday, I was up early on Thursday. I was a Pike's Place Market before the place really opened. No one was throwing fish, but I got to walk the market without much interference. It is a cool market, you could buy a bushel of flowers for $5, but I thought I would look weird walking around with flowers all day. I needed to eat breakfast, so I chose a cool place with a great view. It was probably the most expensive omelet I have ever had, Dungess crab. It tasted awesome. But my day was just beginning...... read more

I have been to nearly 450 Giants games. I think Dyl and I had a no no go into the seventh once. On August 12th, 2015 I visited Safeco Field for probably the only time in my life and Hisashi Iwakuma throws only the 5th no hitter in Mariners history. (By the way, the Giants have had five going back to Jonathan's Sanchez's like 6 years ago. It's a golden age, people!) But congrats to Iwakuma and hey, I guess it was nice to get on the board with one. The sad thing is I hardly noticed it was happening and I almost left. As I have said it is not my team and I went mostly to experience another ballpark. Safeco was the last on my list of West Coast MLB venues. I had a ... read more

I finally heard from my host when I crossed the border into Washington. All was well and my accommodations were ready to go. Relaxed as my train begin to get into the Puget Sound, I can not believe there is a better train view in the world. My pictures will hardly do it justice, which is okay; I was focused on taking it all in. The train runs next to the water. In some spots it seems like you are almost on the water and my sleeper cabin was perfectly positioned to take in the water and the islands of the Sound as the sun hung low in the sky. It was amazing. If nothing else it is worth taking the train North from Portland or Southern Washington just to experience this portion of the journey. ... read more

Carly and Mike got me some baseball cards for the train ride between the Bay and Seattle. This is clearly the best baseball card ever. The train is running late and I have not heard back from my Airbnb hosts. I did get a Robbie Cano card, perhaps I can exchange it for lodgings in Mariner country… I have hit Eugene and I can smell the Ninkasi. So close, but so far away. No matter, many breweries lay in front of me.... read more

I chose to sleep on the top bunk rather than try to figure out the chair/bed thing on ground level. It was pleasant, though perilous to get up and down. I began to regret checking in so many beers last night as it meant a couple of late-night climbs down from the top bunk. Why do kids always want the top bunk? It is a pain in the ass. I awoke to beautiful views of mountains and trees. This is why I took the train…... read more

I keep an old beer growler in my room and drop change in it when I have it. Pennies, nickels and dimes, but never quarters as those go to laundry. The last time I cashed in my growler was like six years ago. I had just come back from a bachelor party in Vegas and literally had no money for like five days. My growler got me $70 that day and it was life or death. The growler had finally refilled and I thought what better reason than this trip to cash it in. I was so proud of the $106 I ended up with (pictures attached) until the cashier at the Safeway who logged in the Coinstar suggested that $106 is nothing for six years. He even suggested someone was dipping their mitts into my ... read more

I started the first day of my trip in a familiar location; 50 California Street. It is my sincere hope that when I return from my trip our new lobby will be open and I can sit on one of the new lobby rocks and contemplate how much I enjoyed my trip. I left work and took the first train of the trip. How can someone who hates Bart so much commit to a ten-day train trip? I took the retched Bay Area Rapid Transit to Rockridge and Ben and Nick’s. I needed to check-in a few pre-vacation beers. For those who are counting the number starts at 540. How many beers will I check in before I return? Numbers range from 23 (thanks for the confidence Mike!) to 49, a great number for a great ... read more
