April 20th and 21st Like I said, rain and mud and camping don’t jive well with me. I sucked it up and after packing out me and Dad got some breakfast. We were to head south about 20-25 miles, and go camping in Los Padres National Forest. On the way down there we stopped at Julia Pfeiffer Burns State Park, another gem that's on the coastline of California. Photos don't really do it justice, especially with my half crappy Olympus. Hope you like them though.. Soo Dad and his wife Tammy had found our camping place last year during his marathon, and he thought it would be a great place to go camping with me. He was spot on, it was a very nice place to camp. We weren’t around other campers, and we had to ... read more

April 19th Let me just start this entry off stating that Big Sur is stunningly beautiful, my photos really don’t do it justice. The hiking in the area is absolutely great, I can attest to that because that is what my father and I did on the 19th. We drove about a couple miles up form our campsite to the Big Sur National Park Station, also the starting point for the Big Sur Marathon that my dad ran in last year. From there we jumped on the Pine Ridge Trail, (how fitting right!?) and started our afternoon hike. It wasn’t a terribly difficult hike but since I am out of shape I did get a lot of burn in my legs, oh well all worth it, the views after an hour or so were breath-taking. At ... read more

April 18th We packed out in the morning while the party people were waking up and cleaning up there mess. I fell asleep shortly after leaving Solvang, CA, which is just outside Lake Cachuma. Solvang is a pretty neat little village, and it claims to be the Danish capitol of the USA. It reminded me of Colonia Tovar, a Germanic village in the rainforests outside of Caracas. All the restaurants and cafes, book stores and inns are named things like Mortenson’s Bakery or The Copenghagen Inn. So it was nice to stop there and get a couple Danish pastries and croissants before heading for the coast. We drove to Highway 1, which is probably one of the most beautifully scenic drives in the entire US of A. The coast of California (and a large portion of ... read more

April 17th And so on this day in 2010 my father and I packed the car up to the brim with camping gear and his pooch, Rosa. We were ready to go explore the coast of California, from LA we were to drive north on Highway 101 until we reached Highway 1, and from there along the coastline until we reached Big Sur. We ended up camping one night at Lake Cachuma on the way up to Big Sur, after not being able to find a cool beach camping site that we liked and wasn't full. But first things first, we couldn't leave LA on empty stomachs, so we went to the only logical place to eat on the way out of town, an In-N-Out. Let me just say that having tasted pretty much all the ... read more

April 15th So apparently I snore quite loud because after the baseball game I hit the hay pretty pretty hard and woke my Dad and Tammy up during the night. In my defense I warned them ahead of time, and I do have a reputation so they really should have sent me to the bathroom to sleep in the tub if they didn't want to get woken up! I guess it's lesson they learned for the next time I visit. The day after the Dodgers game was pretty chill. I didn't do much accept work on this blog and try and figure out how to use some of the features. Since Tammy was leaving for Guatemala the next day she spent most of it inside too, packing and getting ready for a few trips of river ... read more

April 14th (con't) I got into LA from San Bernardino in about two hours, with my stomach growling and my mind on beer and sausages. My father and Tammy had a plan and I met them at Union Station. We headed for the Arts District area of LA and to this German "beer hall" place called Wurstküche. Okay so it's not the Hofbrauhaus, more like an artsy hangout, but the beer was great!! They had ales and wheat imported from all over Belgium and Germany, plus awesome sausage mixtures like snake and rabbit, sun dried tomato, also alligator mixed with pork, and bockwurst. We enjoyed a few rounds of beer that were all about 7% ABV or higher, so needless to say we got a good buzz before the game. And the buzz continued as we ... read more

North America » United States » California » Riverside April 12th 2010

April 12th I woke up in a camper trailer with a sand dune buggy parked in the back wondering where the hell I was. My hangover from the rum and reggae was in full affect when I realized that I was in Riverside at my friend's place. My buddy Aaron had set me up in some great accommodations, in the drive was his family's 40 foot pull along trailer. The bed was probably better than anything I had slept on since the middle of March! Aaron was working until the afternoon so I hung out with his sister and her newborn baby, Aiko. He was a really cute baby, I wish I had got a picture of him and his mother Heather and brother Dylan, and Grandpa Gus. Seeing the baby that small reminded me of ... read more

I landed in LA and the Pacific Time Zone around 11:30pm and was met by my father and his awesome wife Tammy. I was tired as a dog from the flight, and the party the night before, what a blast! I wanted to get to sleep fairly quickly to forget about Villa's result against Chelsea at Wembley, and dream about the upcoming trip. The next day we woke up and got ready for a Sunday in LA. This actually means no traffic for the most part, but it still took us 30 minutes to get to an area of town known for it's Eastern influence. The three of us ate at a great place called Ocean Star Seafood Restaurant. They are known for their awesome dim sum, a chinese dumpling/pot sticker. Both Dad and Tammy are ... read more
