Ciao tutti! I must admit that the business of Italian life and school has gotten the better of me, I've not blogged in what seems like forever, and it definitely has been too long! However, this week I've two tasks I've set for myself before two friends and I set off for Madrid this weekend: Study for my Italian Language 1 Final for Thursday, and hopefully get some work done on my journals and blogging... We shall see how that goes! A big apology on my part for slacking off, and I hope you all are doing very well back home in the states! Arrivederci! alix Recap of the end of September!! • First cappuccino during geography class. I’m officially in Love. We bought our own coffee for the apartment, so we have been saving quite ... read more

September 11/12, 2009 24 Hours of ROME! Carla, Meredith, Cecelia and I decided to do a weekend trip to Rome to see the Vatican City and the Colosseum, etc. Our friend Bailey, wanted to come with us. So we woke up on Friday morning and because it was still the first week of classes, we had to go to Italian Language class. We got out around noon and went home to finish getting packed and ready to go to Rome. We had tried to find a hostel the morning we were leaving, but it was difficult to find five beds and we ended up resorting to Plan B, which was to get ahold of a former USAC student named Nico whom we had been introduced to by Stefano and Francesca the first day we arrived. Nico ... read more

September 1, 2009 Longest day ever! Waking up this morning, refreshed and ready to go, is only a distant memory in my mind… I would have never dreamed it was even close to possible to do so much in one day! But it seems to me that anything and everything is posible in Italia, and that is what I plan on doing while I am here! We woke up and had breakfast at the hotel, I think called the Baletti Palace or something like that….and met the rest of the USAC students who had arrived at 3 o’clock in the morning from LAX, having missed their Frankfurt connection by less than 15 minutes and spending 10 hours in Germany at the airport waiting for the next flight to Roma…today was so exhausting for me having ... read more

August 29, 2009 When I got to Rome this morning, our plane made it over thirty minutes early….6:55 am, Italian time, and already 24 degrees Celsius (that’s like 78 fahrenheit!) I got an expensive taxi (65 euro = 100 US dollars) from Roma Fiumicini (sp??) and the cabbie dropped me off at the wrong hotel… I guess that’s bound to happen though when there are 4 hotels in a row, all named after the street they’re on… So it was no big deal and I got to the Hotel Flavia around 8 am, and they were nice enough to let me check in four hours early. I was worried about how I would get in touch with Natalie, a girl from South Carolina, that I was supposed to be meeting at the hotel and traveling with. ... read more

Ok, so I have been here for 6 days now and have so much to write about! I've been keeping a journal and am just planning on typing it out word for word as it is.... This is my entry from the day(s) I was traveling from Denver International to Rome... August 28, 2009 We woke up early to catch our okances out of DIA. My brother Trey was headed to Kansas City, MO to be baptized that weekend by our grandparents (hope it went well!). His flight left an hour before my own and fortunately we were in the same terminal, and my big brother was able to drop me off at the currency exchange before going to his gate. Saying goodbye to the parents was easy enough, we were all so excited for my ... read more

The days (yes-- the countdown is already to days, not weeks anymore!) until my departure are quickly winding down, & as of tomorrow I only have two weeks left... Ohhh my, where has the summer gone?! As the 28th draws nearer I am getting more anxious and excited, scared and nervous, and I must say it is quite the adrenaline rush. I can only imagine how freaking excited I'll be sitting in a cramped airplane seat on the 8+ hours I'll be on my flights...! I have been keeping in touch via email with all of my roommates, I will be sharing the apartment with in Viterbo (only a few blocks from campus) There is a total of 4 of us, all American girls, and it is reassuring to know that I'm not the only ... read more
