My sister & bro in law used these as taxis when they were in Havana. The owners are so proud of their cars which they spend hours fixing with old parts or traded parts with other owners. If you google Cuban car repairs you'll get a list of sources & interesting videos on the topic. I saw a documentary last year that was excellent.
Ask them if they wish to see the blog If they like American cars maybe they would like to read this blog. If you think so tell them about it. It would be fun to know what they think about it. /Ake
Cars... Well, when I see all those wonderful pics you've posted, it's almost like I start to think that the makers of the movie "Cars" first visited Havana...
Movie cars I guess it's not impossible. Or maybe they watched the movie American Graffiti. It's a really good movie and they drive cars the whole time. /Ake
Yank tanks Had to say "Ahhh" many times looking at the fabulous collection of Yank tanks in this blog Ake. Not that I can contribute to naming any but reminds me of Shell cards as a kid...cards we used to collect and swap of themes such as trains, birds, butterflies, shells...and cars. Brilliant!!!
Many Ahhh- and wow-moments We had many ahhh- and wow-moments when we were in Cuba. Note that almost all the photos are of parked vehicles. There were many more great looking cars that were driven around. /Ake
a shrot comments Hej Åke, I see that you and Emma visited my born town, Santa Clara. I really hope that you and Emma had have a wonderful stay in Cuba. let me just make a short correction. The picture (4,4) is not Fidel Castro but Camilo Cienfuegos, another Cuba icon. He fought in the revolution av 1959 and there are theories that Fidel Castro assassinated him few moths after the victory due to some power conflicting interests. Hoppa allt går bra för ert. Saludos Luciano
Can't figure out which photo we got wrong Luciano, I can't figure out which photo we wrongly labelled as being Fidel rather than Cienfuegos. Hopefully you or someone else might help us correct it. /Ake
I'll correct that Thanks for the comment, Luciano. I will correct that.
We loved it in Cuba. It's a wonderful country with lovely people.
Gracias y saludos!

Icons of Cuba Very interesting perspective in this blog. I find it fascinating that so many images of Che but a law against constructing statues of Fidel Castro. Makes this pic all the more intriguing. Guess some wish to shout out and preserve his memory!
The law is relatively new The law against erecting statues of Fidel is relatively new. This "statue" predates it and is likely not affected by it.
If I am to guess, and this is entirely a guess, the Cubans will find ways to go around that law and keep on publicly honour Fidel. "But this is not a statue, it is a mural", "But I am not putting up a statue of Fidel, only of his beard" etc. Well, you get it.

We are Emma Holmbro and Ake Dahllof. We live in Stockholm, Sweden.
We have travelled more or less regularly since the mid 1990-ies and it seems like the more we travel the more difficult it is to decide where to go next. Not because we are running out of places to visit but because we find more places we want to go to faster than we manage to travel to them.
Some of the things from our travel bucket list we have ticked off since we started this blog in 2006 are
