Amy's Mum and Dad had been to Venice once before, in 2004, when we visited for 1 day at the end of a week long dash around Austria & Slovenia. Now being wiser (questionable), older (definitely) and with a baby in tow, we took the opposite approach and booked a whole week here. We stayed in an apartment in Eastern Castello, a quiet neighbourhood, close to St. Mark's. The streets here are quiet, the canals are picturesque, and best of all is the absence of crowds that blight the other parts of Venice. Amy got lots of attention from the local residents, who were very welcoming and friendly. We were treated like regulars in the local cafe after a couple of visits, no doubt because Amy went in every morning with Daddy for his morning coffee.
