Heathrow airport, early on a Saturday morning.
"Where are you heading to?", asked the security man.
"Luxembourg", I replied.
"Why, there's nothing to see there".
This view is probably shared by many people but we were determined to give it a go anyway and it turned out to be a great weekend away. Ruth had booked this as a surprise birthday trip for us but I had a suspicion she would choose Luxembourg as it's close to London and we had never been there before.
This trip was Amy's 10th flight, not bad for a 7 month old. Not that she's behaving any better on flights... Apologies to all the business men and women who fancied a nice quiet child-free flight!
We stayed in the capital for 2 nights. Luxembourg City is a lovely spot, well located on the cliffs above 2 river valleys. It's a fairly relaxed place with lots to see and do, including an interesting old town and numerous excellent cafes and bars. Our buggy got a good workout on the numerous hills too.
On our final day we hired a car and drove north to Vianden to hike the Luxembourg
Ardennes. Vianden is well known (in Luxembourg at least) for its scenery and had enough hiking trails to fill a week's holiday. We hiked one trail which took us into Germany through woodland and back to Vianden for lunch. Does that count as another country for Amy?!
A second hike took us above Vianden's castle to a viewpoint over the Our river. The scenery here was beautiful, we hadn't really expected this in Luxembourg. After a full day of hiking we realised two things: 1- Luxembourg is a very nice place indeed, and 2 - Amy had gotten so big we would soon need a proper baby backpack. So long Baby Bjorn, you've done a good job!
