Hello my fellow travellers! Wow, just wow! Today was one of the best days of this travel, one to rival the day in Canakkale! This morning the time had finally come for my last stop of the trip, Maribor in Slovenia. I had to get up quite early this morning so I'm quite tired now but this day has been wonderful. Well, in Maribor I had arranged to meet Saso and Anna at 2pm at the main square. I arrived at 10 am and took a leisure walk around the river by myself before meeting up with them and I really fell in love with this city. I haven't felt this relaxed for a very long time and today I really felt like I was on vacation. The area around river Drava is absolutely gorgeous, the ... read more

Hello my fellow travellers! Well, I'm back at Mia's after my day in Zagreb and I have to admit that this was the laziest day so far of my travel, I don't know why but somehow I just made an unconscious agreement with myself today not to rush around sightseeing but to instead just take it easy. It was a very nice feeling actually and it felt more like I was on a vacation today than it has done previously on this trip. Luckily the centre of Zagreb is quite compact so I still picked up the main sights without even really trying and I actually saw everything I wanted to except for the castle of Medevgrad. Quite some time did go to fixing the next stage of my trip though, there are actually quite poor ... read more

Hello my fellow travellers! I arrived in Sarajevo at 6 am, unfortunately the bus from Podgorica doesn't drop you at the central bus station but at a small eastern one about five kilometres outside of Sarajevo. I knew this beforehand and I had received a list of good taxi companies from my new host Lejla before I arrived. There was however a couple of young German girls that hadn't checked on anything and didn't know that they would be dropped outside of the city and who felt very lost being out in the middle of nowhere. Since I had already ordered a taxi I invited them to share it. So there we were, standing around and waiting for a taxi that never seemed to come. I called the taxi company again but this time they said ... read more

Hello my fellow travellers! I left Cleon early this morning and I must admit that I was quite tired from all the beers last night, I'm getting old I guess. Well, I took the 7 am bus to Shkodra where I would take the 4 pm bus to Ulcinj. This plan gave me a good six hours to check out Shkodra and on the top of the list was of course the impressive Rozafa Castle located only a couple of kilometres from the city. Before I set out for the castle though I took a peek of the Great Mosque but to be honest it didn't really strike my fancy so I didn't linger there for long. It actually turned out to be quite a hike to get to the fortress anyway because the locals actually ... read more

Hello my fellow travellers! After a great day with Mihajlo in Veles and another good exploration of Skopje yesterday I got on the bus to Tirana. Let's just say that the bus was less than exciting, burning hot with no air conditioning but with an assortment of drunks instead, yes drunks, not drinks. Even so I eventually managed to fall asleep and in doing so ended up in Durres instead of in Tirana. Tirana doesn't actually have a bus station, the bus just stopped at a parking lot with no lights around and that's why I never noticed it. I only noticed because we were two hours past the time when I was supposed to be in Tirana and when I asked another passenger he told me that we had already passed it, he was kind ... read more

Hello my fellow travellers! I slept very well tonight at Mihajlo's house and we started the day in a easy tempo with a nice breakfast and a rest in their garden and I got to eat peaches from their own tree! After the breakfast we loaded up in Mihajlo's car and he drove me around in Veles, giving me a comprehensive tour of the city which I really enjoyed. He showed me the local sights and told me about many aspects of the town. He is very knowledgeable and I really liked Veles a lot, he took me up to visit a World War II memorial that commemorates the fighters from Veles. The memorial is is made to look like a poppy flower and inside is a blossoming tree that represents liberty. He also showed me ... read more

Hello my fellow travellers! I woke up this morning after a very poor night's sleep on that dreary train ride only to find myself having to switch to a bus due to works on the track. Because of that I arrived in Skopje almost two hours late and I was immediately swarmed by taxi drivers the second I stepped of the bus. Tonnes of them everywhere! I almost had to beat them off with a stick just to be able to enter the station building! Anyway, I got into the bus station which is in the same building as the train station. Due to the delay I only had a few minutes to get tickets and get onthe bus to Pristina but it was okay because the bus station in Skopje is very easy to navigate. ... read more

Hello my fellow travellers! After another great night's sleep at Nikola's place the two of us headed out together because he had to go to work today, Alex left us yesterday so it was just the two of us. I was planning on visiting the Museum of Yugoslavian History with the House of Flowers and then just spend the rest of the day walking around the pedestrian areas of Belgrade, trying to find something nice for Lisa. I liked the museum quite a lot, especially the House of Flowers where Tito is buried. It was a calm and serene place, very beautiful. The museum was also very nice with friendly guards, good information and a great layout/planning. I ended up spending quite some hours here, enjoying the various artefacts on display. It was very interesting to ... read more

Hello my fellow travellers! After a really good night's sleep (only interruption was when Alex returned from his late exploration) I was ready to take on the city of Belgrade! Me and Alex woke up about the same time and headed out together, although him by bicycle and me by bus. I kept a pretty good pace across town and covered pretty much all I wanted to see in Belgrade in a single day actually which is pretty nice. The first site that I visited was of course the massive Church of Saint Sava, it's one of the largest churches in the world and especially amongst Orthodox places of worship. It was built on the spot where Saint Sava was burned by the Ottomans in 1595. It was originally planned to be constructed on the 300 ... read more

Hello my fellow travellers! After a shaky, but eventually quite pleasant, day in Bucharest yesterday I was on the train bound for Belgrade with hopes of a relaxing stay with a confirmed and well recommended host. Things started off pretty poorly as I realized I'd forgotten to buy water for the eight hours train ride to Timisoara on the Romanian border. Things didn't exactly get better as the train was smacked completely full and was steaming hot. Even worse it left the station with roughly 40 minutes delay, which isn't a good thing when you have a transit time of 30 minutes in Timisoara. I wasn't exactly feeling to optimistic about it! Once we finally got rolling I actually did manage to get a little bit of sleep, but it was quite scarce as I spent ... read more
