First impressions of Mui Ne weren't great - we got settled into a guesthouse near to where the bus dropped us off and headed out to get some food shortly later. The problem was that the nearby restaurants didn't seem to have any food. Pretty much everything we ordered was "finished" and what we finally got wasn't great. The following morning we hit the beach which seemed nice at first, but I soon discovered that if you strayed more than a 10m either side of the area right outside the guesthouse the beach was coverred in debris (including a dog's skull). Even so, we had a nice afternoon of reading on the nice part of the beach before heading out for a more successful search for food. There is no town as such in Mui Ne, ... read more

So we're on the bus from Hoi An to Hue when we find out that the biggest festival of the year is taking place in Hue and there are no rooms available in town. We had planned to stay for only one night in Hue, as we had a flight the next day to Hanoi. We considered touring Hue, and sleeping at the airport if we were unable to find any rooms, however, where would we keep our luggage? We were dreading the suitcase we lugged around, but that contained our precious tailored wardrobe! Top Priority! In hindsight, we should have mailed all our goodies to Saigon to The Aunties, as it would have been the stress-free option. The lovely pit stops on beach front hotel properties was our reward for enduring the sweltering heat on ... read more

Hi All I'm just back from 2 days of bliss on Whale Island. Since the last time i wrote the group did a long train journey from Hoi An to Nha Trang (10 hours!!). We kept ourselves amused by creating a pub quiz for the rest of the group - Ross and I being the quizmasters - i think we did a pretty good job! We didn't get to stay in Nha Trang for long which was such a shame as it looked so much fun - definitely one of the better places to party (we still managed a quick bucket of cocktails though!) Whale Island is a very small private resort with about 20 or 30 beach bungalows so there were only a few other people there who weren't on our tour. It was bliss ... read more

Kane Waiting for a girl we are travelling with so thats why I'm posting. Got cut off once on the plane over, but just went to different crew members for drinks. We are staying in Chinatown of Saigon and went Exploring last night, after talking to alot of locals, one of them organised a cab for us to go somewhere to dance. We ended up at Gossip. This place was balistic. A Dance club for locals, sure the alcohol was Sydney club prices except for Cognac which was about 20% of the Aussie price but the venue and music was one of the best I've been to in a year or two. I lost my watch last night. I left it in a hotel and when I went back I couldn't even find the hotel. Good ... read more

Well I've moved hotels. In the beginning I was all like "Oh, I'm uncomfortable staying in a place this nice, there's so many poor people in Vietnam, blah blah blah" - but it's amazing how QUICKLY one adjusts to luxury... My budget could only support luxury for two weeks, however. So I've moved to a hotel 2 doors down. I was staying in "The Classic: 2" (or as I liked to think, in a low-intellect, Arnie-inspired-voice-inside-my-head, "Classic: THE SEQUEL"...) Next door to that is The Prince Hotel, which is where I thought I was moving to when a guy I know said he had a friend working at The Prince and he could get me a good price there. He was talking half the price of "THE SEQUEL" and I thought 'ooh, that's good, cause The ... read more

The Red River Hotel was pretty swanky by our standards and as well as satellite TV, a huge room, mini bar, air con and hot water we also had brekkie and free internet included. After popping over to see the boys at Red River 2 we headed out to see some sights. Hanoi is the craziest place we have ever seen and we all fell in love with it immediately. With a population of 7 million there's an estimated 5 million motorbikes and the way you're supposed to cross the road is to just walk slowly into the line of traffic and pray they miss you! We made our way over to the Hoa Lo Prison Museum which is where many political prisoners and then Amercian Pow's who had been shot down by communists over Northern ... read more

Hello Everybody, It has been a little while since I last wrote. Hopefully this website will work okay and will be easy to manage for both you and me. I am fairly computer illiterate so this is somewhat of an acheivement for me if it works. Right now we are in Mui Ne (pronounced moo-nay) which is in South Vietnam and it is our third day here. It is a nice "beachy" place again and it is a lot nicer than Sihanoukville where we had been staying before in Cambodia. It is a lot cleaner and there are hardly any hawkers (I have only seen two and they didn't even bother me!) Since having last written I turned the big 3-0 and it really was pretty painless. Thank you again for all your e-cards and birthday messages. ... read more

Hello All, I hope that you are all well. Sorry I've rather fell behind in keeping you updated on my travels etc, but I'm afraid that I've become somwhat lethargic in the matter, putting things off until a latter date. I believe that my last blog was as long as a month ago. I've visted the South of Thailand as well as had a snapshot of Northern Vietnam since then. From Angkor Wat and Siem Reap (the town in which we stayed while visting the temples) we took a bus along a forsaken Cambodian road in an overpacked bus, the sort of vehicle that Dylan, Liz and I have become far to accustomed to. On the border we got into the far more comfortable Thai transportation and went forth, to Bangkok! By late evening we arrived ... read more

I don't usually like bikes nor find the prospect of riding one exciting. I am not sure why. Usually, it's supposedly cool for a girl to ride a motorcycle, but once we got our bike, I gave tfaduh a small little smile and asked him to go ride around first. "You sure you don't want to try it?" "No, it's okay," I smiled. So I rode behind him, and held on to him looking at all the sights. Somehow it's better for me this way. Later on, I decided to try it out. He gave me a basic run down of the the controls and off I went, reving the engine. Then I crashed into the pavement and nearly ran into a roadside shop. A man ran up to me, and tfaduh followed, concerned. The bike ... read more

Our next destination was to be Halong Bay. We took the easy route and booked to do a tour. It was still cheap and everything was paid for. It was a 3 and a half hour bus ride from Hanoi to Halong Bay on the coast. It was raining and miserable but the scenery made up for this. We arrived at the port to board our Junk Boat, as they call them. Not junk though, actually very nice wooden style boats that are 3 levels. The other people on the boat consisted of more Aussies, Kiwi's, American's, Germans, 2 Danish and a guy from Iceland. We were treated to a typical lunch then shown to our cabins which were small but comfortable. Once the rain had stopped we made our way to the top deck to ... read more
