Hey guys, again sorry for being so slack with adding entries onto the blog! Thought it was time we let you know what we've been up to for our 3 weeks in Vietnam...... Had a great 5 days in Saigon, its a crazy city, never seen so much scooter traffic & when the time comes that you have to cross the road you just walk, make eye contact & hope for the best! The city has a good feel about it though! Caught up with Dom & Briely(sp) (2 ozzie girls) who we met on the Mekong trip, had a few nights out with them, some shopping, although I'm saving the real shopping for Bangkok. We hired a cyclo for the morning which was a bit hairy at times what with all the traffic but after mounting ... read more

Hi people, sorry about the delay, small case of bloggers block I think as it has taken us ages to write about our brilliant trip to Vietnam, and already it seems like ages ago. We arrived in India one week ago and are now living it up in Goa. Caz and Mark should be getting to Gatwick airport as we speak which is too exciting.. More about India later though as here are some pictures from Ho Chi Minh City, in Vietnam, a fantastic city well worth a visit. Vietnam is beautiful and we wish that we had left ourselves more time at the end of our trip to explore it properly; I suppose we will just have to come back again soon as it was we only made it to a few different places but ... read more

Crossing the border from Cambodia to Vietnam was rather uneventful. Except for the part when we first got there and some people in blue suits asked for our passports. Without a word they filled out the forms that we usually fill out to enter a country. They gave them back and requested $1.00 for their service. What the hell, I didn't ask for that, I snapped. I gave them 80 cents, 40 cents each from Jasmine and I. In Asia they are very smart and have the most elaborate ways to part you with your money. If you're not always thinking you can be nickle and dimed to death! haha It happened when I arrived from Laos to Thailand and it happened once again when I arrived from Cambodia to Vietnam. It feels like I arrived ... read more

We took the overnight train to Danang. We made some Vietnamese friends on the train - one of them spoke decent enough French! We headed to the restaurant car where we met a bunch of Australians who were on a package tour. They harassed Johnny to play the fiddle but after a few tunes they lost interest and started a singsong of all the worst karaoke songs ever and Johnny sheepishly put the fiddle away! We took a taxi from the train station to Hoi An. Found the hotel, Hai Yen Hotel which had the luxury of a pool outside. Hoi An is famous for tailoring and there’s over 200 tailor shops in the town. I got a suit and a couple of shirts made up which fitted perfectly first time. There wasn’t much to see ... read more

If you've got any sense you will miss Saigon! Only joking - I really like it though I realise that dodging the traffing in Han Oi was just a warm up for the real thing in Saigon! The traffic here is incredible - considering there's only around 4 million people here (77 million in Vietnam in total) I think they're all out on the streets at the same time! It's so bad in some places that there are policeman to escort us poor tourists across the road! As you will have guessed, I've moved on from Hoi An. I can't begin to tell you how emotional it was leaving the kids and the good friends I've made - suffice to say I've used a lot of tissues over the past few days. To mark my leaving ... read more

Monday 27th to Thursday 30th November I've got to admit I was dreading the six hour 6.45am bus ride from Phnom Penn to Ho Chi Minh City (Saigon) but the only other option was a four hour boat journey to the border and then once through immigration to find my own way to Ho Chi Minh, at least another two hours by road. I needn't have worried though as, like a naughty schoolboy, I managed to snag the whole of the back row for myself and spent a good portion of the journey flat out drifting in and out of consciousness. As soon as I stepped off the bus in the busy city street at about 1pm I was approached by a middle aged woman asking if I needed a hotel and when I nodded she ... read more

The bus took about 5 hours to get to Ho Chi Minh City. It dropped us off in the heart of backpackersville and close to a couple of decent, cheap hotels we had read about in our guide book. Outside 1, a tout told us it was full. Of course we didn't believe him but when we went in to check, the receptionist confirmed what he said. The tout, waiting outside, said he would show us another hotel nearby. When we got there, they only had 1 room left, on the top floor (5 floors up) and at the front of the hotel. We had learnt that rooms at the front of Vietnamese hotels are always really noisy due to either late-night bars, early morning cockerel calls, dogs barking or motorbikes whizzing past at any time ... read more

Another relaxing day is behind us in Saigon. After a day of adjustment, I used the early morning for some photo ops around town. This also gave Shauna an opportunity to catch up on some beauty sleep. We left the rest of the morning for sightseeing. We focused on three museums. By far the most interesting was the American War Museum. I saw this one on my first trip here, but the pictures and exhibits were just as powerful the second time through. The savagery and pain were so evident in many of the pictures -- a number of them would never be shown in the U.S. There was one picture where four U.S. soliders were standing in front of two heads decapitated from Vietnamese soldiers. The grin on the soldier's faces was chilling. Another disturbing ... read more

i'd been so excited about having my birthday in a foreign country and we'd planned lots of cool things to do to celebrate...well, me! we forgot that it was MY birthday though - and the inevitable ' bad thing ' that would happen. i've had some crap birthdays in the past, but catching gastroenteritis from a viscious bastard crab definately made this one the most memorable and worst! boo hoo. anyway the kind doctor gave me some super strong antibiotics (for a mere 20 english pounds) and i was fine...a week later. i still felt slightly dodgy when we got to mui nei so i slept for a couple of days while hannah explored. i'm reliably informed that the beach outside the posh resort is used by the local people as a toilet. in fact hannah ... read more

Guess who’s back? We have been meaning to blog Saigon for ages. We are living here now and people are curious about our lives in Vietnam. We have plenty of photos below from the city, our schools, our flat, our friends and various other stuff too. There are also a couple of short videos just to the left of this text (if you take the time to download them). They will give you some more insight into where we are living right now and how things are for us.. So.. George W, Angelina & Brad have all been and gone. It feels like Edinburgh after the Fringe! Still, life goes on and it does so with a vengeance. I (Warren) will tell you a bit about my life here and Sof will hopefully be forthcoming at ... read more
