We went back to Saigon, first we spent 2,5 hours on the boat and after that 5 hours in bus. We met some nice Vietnamese people on the bus who helped tanslating when we had breaks and when we arrived. We found a hotel (Hotel 97) for 8 $ a night close to the bars and the more touristy areas.
We found a pizza place and we were really hungry after the long trip. After this we walked around in Saigons streets, the first time we saw it in the evening. It was less chaotic and a better experience than our first day there - we found some crazy shops and bought some different stuff to bring home.
We booked a trip on the Mekong river and to the floating market the day after, and since it was early in the morning, we decided to go back to the hotel. Of course we just had to go to the bank so we could pick up 1,5 mio. dong, each...
The boat trip was very funny, thanks to our crazy guide who was really entertaining. We saw the floating market, where all the boats had a tall stick where
you could see the product they sold. It was only locals who shopped there so it seemed very authentic. After this we went to see a factory that produced both coconut candy and ricepaper.
We had lunch at a local place, really good and authentic too. We were offered some bikes so we drove around in there area for a bit, very deserted and a big contrast to Saigon. When we came back we realized that we had been eating next to a big snake in a cage, which we hadn't seen at all.
At the end we were sailed in some smaller, old-fashioned boats back to the big boat.
The next day we woke up at 10, when it was to hot to stay in bed. We had some breakfast and went to a local market by cyclos - the drivers told us to keep our things close to us, because people often steal them in the traffic and because there were so much traffic they could be gone within a second and it would be impossible to find the ones who stole them.
The market was really nice, I bought a lot of gifts
for people at home and also some for myself. It was in a concrete building, all grey and unpersonal and it was packed with small shops with all the things we could imagine, on 10 stores or so. It reminded me a lot if markets I have seen in Beijing and Shanghai in China. In the basement they had all the food stalls, but because it was packed very closely and really hot, we werent tempted to eat there, mostly because of the smell.
So we decided to go back to our hotel with our things and then we went to get a hot stone massage, which cost almost nothing and it is the best massage I have ever had.
We relaxed a bit and then we went back to the local restaurant, where we had some noodles. After this we decided to go back to our room and watch TV for the second time on the trip, again Disney Channel was the winner. Our small mouse/roommate that we had included in the price, (even though we had seen it running from our room to another, the owners was convinced there were no mice) decided to make a
lot of noise that night, and the day after I found out that it had eaten all my crackers, nice!
The next day, off to BKK and meet up with Stefanies boyfriend Frank.
