CU... read more

Hi every one. A quick happy birthday wish for my mom who turned 70 this week. I can't believe she had me when she was 45 years old (JK). Welcome all you newbies to my travelblog. Just a quick update on what is going on over here in Asia. I left chaing mae and went to Bangkok a little while back to take a landmark forum course. After the course I did a little traveling and took a tacky tour out of Bangkok to: the floating market, the bridge over the river kwai and tiger temple (see photos). I left Bangkok and went to Sukhathai the ancient capital of Thailand and did a quick photo tour on a bike. I then came back to Chiang Mae to meet with Jon who is doing the programming ... read more

Last time I made an entry here I was in Chang Mai on a 3 day trekking tour in the Northern Hills. Since then my travel companion and I have meandered our way down back to Bangkok stopping in Sukhothai, Ayuthaya and Kanchanaburi. All three places were nice and considerably smaller than Chang Mai. Sukhothai is split up into 2 sections. Old and new. For those of you that don't know, Sukhothai was the ancient capital of Thailand formally called Siam. New Sukhothai is nothing to write home about, it would seem to be an average Thai town. Old has the Historical park with some of the more eye catching ruins I've seen yet. Bicycle rentals are all the rage, and of course we partook. 20 Baht gets you a bike for the day, less ... read more

After Ayutthaya I wasn't sure if I'd be 'templed out' but headed to Sukhothai regardless. I ot a really nice train to Phitsanulok (5hrs) then a bus to Sukhothai(1hr). I stayed at the Ian guest house where everyone was really friendly. It rained pretty heavily but when it cleared up I had met up with some French girls and an aussie called Jan we crossed the river that had formed outside our hostel and ventured into town. I wasn't impressed everything was dark and shut down by about nine - rubbish! However, the next day was MUCH better. We got a tuk tuk to old Sukhothai (where I wished I had stayed) and took to the historical park by bike. Yep that right me on mon petit velo orange!! The temple complex was beautiful! There ... read more

Making our way around Bangkok was a lot easier than we had imagined. Using a combination of the Sky train (very clean efficient and most importantly air conditioned) and Taxi’s it was relatively straight forward. Mental Note when in Thailand: Having read up on taxi driver antics in a guide book we made sure the taxi driver from the airport used the meter and true enough it was a lot cheaper than the Manager back at the terminal had insisted we pay. We didn’t intend to spend a lot of time in Bangkok just a day to arrange our onward travel. We made an early start (around 12ish!!) the next day and headed for the Mo Chit bus station to buy a ticket to Sukhothai, seven odd hours north of Bangkok. By 1.30 that afternoon we ... read more

Sa-wat-dii-kha everybody! well here we are in Thailand! we have been here for a week now and Thailand is so different to India. It is very weird trying to speak Thai now instead of all the indian languages! the intonation used in Thai is strange and it all sounds very high pitched! It is quite confusing too and today i said hello instead of thankyou! The syllable 'mai' can mean five different words depending on the intonation! Intonation is really important in thai but it seems so hard to end the way we speak with a high pitched voice! Anyway i will fill you in with all the Thailand stories but first i do believe we need to recap on the rest of our wonderful Indian travels! So Alice left off with the delightful tales of ... read more

Got up after a good night sleep and headed down the street towards the Sanythaew stop (converted pickup with wooden benchs in the back and canopy.) On the way I picked up some bread, chisps and lots of water as it was a really really hoy day.) Most of the people Id talked to on the way up were missing this place out (going straight to Chang Mai) but it was nice to see there was still a few here who wanted to visit the ruins of Thailands first (and greatest?) ancient capital. On the pickup ride over I met two Americans (cool ones) and we rented some old bicycles. Spent the next 3 hours cycling around these trully beautiful ruins. There were a few people there but not many so we had the place ... read more
