Hi! Thanks for checking up on my travel blog and adding those hilarious comments (traveler's diarrhea?? haha...hopefully I won't have to deal with that....I've been knocking on a lot of wood) :) So this weekend was action packed and fun. We went to the Chiang Mai Cooking School which runs the Wok, our favorite place to eat. It was a little iffy because we didn't know if we would be the only ones there and what exactly we would be making. It turns out that there were quite a few people and the instructors - J.Lo and Gaan were entertaining and very good at teaching. We made tons of food starting at 10am going all the way to 4pm, and I have to say all of it was delicious! We made Red Curry, Rad Na, Papaya ... read more

Today we actually got out before 9am and started exploring the city a little more. We first went for a walk where we ran into a camera crew and possible celebrities from India and had noodle soup (yum, it's beginning to become a staple meal since it's only $0.50). We went to the zoo since there are posters everywhere proclaiming the arrival of the Giant Pandas from China on loan for the Queen's birthday (she's 72 this year and it's a big one since they go by a 6 year cycle- which means big parties every 6 years!). We were warned in the Let's Go Thailand that it would be a very difficult tour and to get a map. It failed to mention that the map was slightly unreliable and that nothing on the map was ... read more

Last week I went up to Chiang Mai and Pai in the north of Thailand for a week. Chiang Mai is a very popular city on the backpacker circuit, though I reserve judgement. It’s terribly polluted, just like Bangkok, and its kind of like Khao Sanh but bigger - ie. lots and lots of backpackers with braids and fisherman’s pants and a few Thai people. I wasn’t that taken with it during the day - due to pollution and prevalence of ugly buildings - but quite liked it at night. However, I didn’t leave the touristy areas of Chiang Mai city and three days is too short a time to judge a place. Apparently the pretty areas are the parts of town where the tourists don’t go… go figure. The first day I went up to ... read more

We woke about 5.30am, because the roosters were making too much noise. After breakfast, we gave all of the children a small gift. Then we say goodbye, and got some mini-trucks to the river. We all got onto bamboo rafts and went down the river. Some of the rafts began to fall apart. We all had a turn rowing the rafts, and a lady from another raft accidently hit me in the head with a piece of bamboo. Stupid cow! It hurt so much. After the rafting, we decided to go Bungy Jumping, because I had said a few days earlier that I had wanted to do it. So Trung said he would do it with me. When we got there, I got talking to some Israelis who told me that it was awesome. I was ... read more

We went back to Bangkok, and then got a mini-bus to Ayuthaya. On the way there we stopped and looked at some of the rice fields. Once we were there we went for a look at Wut Pra Maha That, which was really beautiful. It reminded me of how a temple would look in Cambodia. We went back to the hotel, and some of us went for a little bit of shopping. After that we all went for dinner at a floating restaurant, and then got the overnight train to Chiang Mai. We bought some alcohol and some snacks, which kept us entertained for a few hours. Wendy kept telling us to be quite, but we didn’t listen, as it’s a holiday, so we are going to have fun, and its not like we are going ... read more

Like all great things, War and Peace, The Godfather triology, and Pee Wee's Playhouse, they must come to an end. So to is our trip to the east east coast. I do not say vacation because a vacation is a place you go to recharge your batteries. A trip is a mind-altering experience. Much like the druggies who take shrooms or acid to go on a different kind of trip. Danielle and I merely had to eat a hell of a lot of rice to go on this trip. It has been incredible and we have never even felt any side effects like the munchies or anything. *In Thailand, they have pictures of the king and queen of Thailand in various poses all over the country. At certain times, people stand up and the Thai anthem ... read more
