Good morning Chiangmai.
I go out for breakfast at about 06:30 not being able to break our habit of early mornings. There are no people around with the exception of the monks out for their morning food donations.
Getting back to room half an hour later it is back into bed for another couple of hours.
I want to get as many chores completed today as possible to leave the rest of our time here free. I go to the exchange shop that I always use and get the not too healthy rate of 49.60 = 1GBP. Take the cash straight to the bank and pay into my account here.
Back to the room where I take half of the books and lump them across town to my usual book shop - On The Road books. The English chap isn't in the shop this morning but his wife and daughter make me an offer on some of them that is OK. I exchange for as many as I can and leave the box with the remainder for the English guy to check later and I will come back.
Whatever happens I don't intend to carry any books back to Khamnadie with us so if
he doesn't want to buy any of them then he just have them for nothing.
Stop at the internet on the way back and see that Gloucs beat Quins at the weekend. Do a little research into Dave's American roots but can't get full access to the records I need from here.
Return to the room with some fresh pineapple to sort through books and notes.
I send Jai out for food about 11:30. She has been off spicy food for a few weeks but we both enjoy some really hot Lao street food for lunch.
I return to the book shop with the rest of the books that I had brought and the English guy turns up after a while. He doesn't really want most of the books but makes me an acceptable offer. I will be returning with 16 new books and the three beer boxes full of books that have been cluttering up the spare bedroom are now gone.
I stopped at Sugar Bar for a chat with Dave on the way back but get the impression that he isn't really interested in his family roots any more.
Back to the room with cold drinks and more pineapple.
We both go out for a
walk late afternoon stopping off at the bar on our way back. Friends Dave, Bill and Alan are all going out to eat Mexican food tonight but I don't feel like accompanying them.
We go back to the room for a shower and change before going out to eat about 18:30.
About 19:30 we meet up with one of Jai's old friends May who lives just outside of town and had biked in to see us.
Stay in the bar and have a couple of beers with the chaps before we turn in about 22:00.
It looks like we will be staying at least one night longer than we anticipated for Dave to finish his doctor's appointments but that's fine with us. If they intend to stay as long as next weekend we will think about taking a bus back.
