It has been three months on my adventure in Thailand and I really can't believe how the time really does fly by. I'm glad to report that I am not sick of Thailand in the slightest and instead have come to love it even more with every passing day. There are those days that I would just crave a sandwich or soup or CHEESE, cheese sandwich, cheese flavored snacks, basically anything that even slightly resembles cheese flavoring would be a delight but besides the food issue and the occasional (haha) mis communication my time here has been fantastic. I've been at my site for a month now and what I have come to learn is that don't ever expect well pretty much anything. My days have yet to be routine and I love that. On the ... read more

So its official, I am a Peace Corps Volunteer and I am at the site that I will call home for the next two years. I got to say I am both nervous and excited to be here. Currently I am just hanging out in my room relaxing, but it has been a non stop whirlwind of attempting to speak Thai and learning about my new home. For the next month I will be staying with my second host family. Nothing can replace my host family from Ayutteya, but these folks seem just as lovely. Meme, my sister, also works at the Tesseban with me and the two of us have been taking our bikes there daily. I can hear the laughs as we drive by and I can't tell who its directed at. Site Visit Alright folks so I know where I will be spending the next two years of my life and the winner is Jangwat Roi-Et. Yes go and google it right now and find out where I am going! I'm headed to Isan which is in the North East of Thailand and is exactly where I thought I would be going. I was exctied to hear that I would be headed to Isan, and even more excited to find out nearly half of our group was headed in that direction as well. I'll be moving up to Roi-Et in a few days, but I have had the opportunity to visit it so this is what I learned. 1.) I've spent months learning Thai only to go to an area that speaks Isan. It's alright though ... read more

Geo: 15.9033, 103.729Go out to the farm this morning and check up on the rice development. It looks good to me but Jai thinks that it needs a second dose of fertilizer. I bow to her superior knowledge. Feed the fish who have been taking care of themselves whilst we have been away and they flock (can fish flock ?) to gobble up everything we throw into the water. Back at the house the grass must have been on speed whilst we have been gone and is nearly a metre high everywhere. Along with the kitchen rubbish that has accumulated I desperately need to have a bonfire if only it would stay dry for a couple of days. No actual rain falling today so at least we can do a big laundry to catch up with ... read more

Geo: 15.9033, 103.729Today we are making our first real journey by motorbike to the nearest city of any size Roi Et. We want to buy an oven so that Jai can bake cakes but the local town has come up empty in this department. Roi Et has a Tesco Lotus which we are hoping will be able to help. Whilst in Roi Et we visit the land registry to check up on the deeds for Jai's land at the farm but they are not ready yet. We also visit a large furniture store and buy a kitchen cupboard to for the baking stuff to live in. Tesco is next to useless, I guess as the locals dont use ovens they dont stock them. We are pointed to another shop, Makro, on the far outskirts of the ... read more
