We arrive at Sahaphan Tours office and bus station in Bangkok about 05:00 after an uncomfy journey that saw neither of us get much sleep. We have decided to leave the bus here rather than Mo Chit bus station so that we don't have to go through the scuffles to get a taxi. It is a couple of miles further out but a whole lot easier, especially as we have suitcases with us.Arrive at New Siam to find our room available already and by 05:40 we are stretched out on the bed with coffee and croissants.24hours before flight is due to leave I can usually choose our seats on the plane but getting to the website today the plane is full and there is little option to change the seats we have been allocated. We do have an aisle seat but there will be someone sat next to the window inside us so I hope they are not the restless type wanting to get in and out all flight.Back to room to collect Jai then to our usual noodle shop for lunch.Last year the exchange rate was 53:1, when I got back in January it was 43.41 and today
it is down again to 42.10 - luckily I don't need to change anything. Following the trend I wouldn't be that surprised if it drops below 40 before we get back in September. After lunch its straight back to the room avoiding the midday sun.14:00 I go out for a walk. My main purpose was to see what they are constructing in Sanam Luang for the King's cremation later this year. Nearing the park though it is all sealed off with only a handful of entry points around the circumference. There are queues where everyone is searched and bags emptied etc and I decide I cant be bothered. I retraced my steps to the river and walked half way across Pinklao bridge for views along the river and back to the park where we go each evening when we are here. By the time I get back to the room an hour later I am melting and the room feels freezing cold by comparison. We walk to the riverside park nearby about 16:00 but had to sit in the shade as the sun was still quite fierce. Walk along the riverside path where we stop and have a beer and a
tuna submarine sandwich in the garden at our partner hotel; New Siam Riverside.Stopping at 7/11 for some breakfast croissants we get back to the room about 18:00.Jai wants to watch a last night of her Thai soaps so I leave her in the room and go for a beer at Gecko Bar near the guest house. I start chatting to a Kiwi fella, then a Dutchman and his Danish wife, then a German and 2 Brits join in and we end up pulling tables together and having a good natter. Downside is that I have a couple more beers than I intended and it is with difficulty, and the thought of tomorrow's flight, that I have to drag myself away before things get out of hand. Good night though.Getting back to the room I do have a slight worry about how I am going to feel in the morning but by now its too late to do anything about it other than try and get some sleep.
