Another nice morning
Even though it is the rainy season and i has rained everyday, it usually starts off very nice, just like this. Makes it good for training, but when the rain comes regularly in the evening, it’s hard to go anywhere to eat and there’s no sidewalk shopping. Once again, rain last night, but wake up to a nice clear morning. It’s fortunate the weather works this way.. I’m not sure that I would be motivated enough to jump rope for 30+ minutes. Somehow it’s easier to run here than jump. When I got to the gym, even a few minutes later than usual, I saw the gate was still closed, which was different. Assuming everything was ok, I slipped in and dropped my gear to go run my 10 laps. On the second lap, the gate was open and movement was seen. It was a hard run after expending a ton of energy in yesterdays sessions. Everyone seemed a bit slow this morning. Training started with 2 rounds on the bag, just to get loosened up. There were two pad rounds, working combinations, and the 10 kicks left and right. First round finished with alternating power kicks, and the second with about 100 alternating knees. Those knees really get me out of breath for some reason. That made the third round only boxing, and of course some knees, just for fun. Next, the gloves and hand wraps came off for 3 rounds of clinching work. This was even

Each round a constant battle of hand, arm, and leg position to not get a knee or thrown, but to do exactly that. By the end of each round, I’m usually panting for breath while Fahlaep just laughs. I think each round ended up with me on the ground at least once. He then would say “Ok, ok, stop stop” and offer to help me up and then start right in again, as I expected. One more exhausting morning in the books. Today will be the final afternoon session for the trip.
The afternoon went about as expected. Running was tough again, but finished my last seven afternoon laps. It wasn’t easy, but counting them down brings the realization that training time is nearly up here. Jumped rope for 15 minutes, more or less. Legs were feeling a bit heavy and starting to cramp, so took a few breaks. Three rounds of work with Fahlaep. He kept telling Nikki (Singapore) that he was going to wear me out before the two of us sparred. Nikki wanted to work on sparring this trip, so that’s what we did. Four rounds, with the last
Nikki from Singapore
His first time at this gym, but he works out at the Eminent gym in Singapore. We had been working on sparring the past week, his first time ever sparring. boxing only. It was great seeing some changes in him just in a few days. Hopefully, he gets to train with some of the other guys next week and get a feel for how others will fight. Totally drained after that. Met another guy who just started today, Jeff from Canada. He’s got a business of personal trainer and is working remotely for a bit here, and doing seminars and then more traveling. He’s staying in Asok, near me so we walked to BTS and rode back together. If I didn’t have a meeting tonight, I would have gone to dinner with him. Tomorrow is the last day, and it’s Fahlaep’s birthday. Hopefully we don’t have to do kicks and punches to match his age!
