After doing some epic packing, I set off from Kota Kinabalu for what would be a 40 journey to get back home. I boarded the plane in Kota Kinabalu with very mixed emotions, very glad to be getting back home to family and friends and of course my cat, who I missed so much, but, also disappointed to be leaving a place I'd fallen in love with. I flew to Singapore for my connecting flight (after a 10 hour lay over). The flight to Singapore was a little over 2 hours, it went pretty quickly, I arrived in Singapore and went to the transit area for a ridiculously long wait until my flight back.
Shortly after arriving, I booked myself on to the free tour of Singapore from the airport. To kill some time I had a walk round the airport, it was enormous! There are so many shops, attractions and food places it was pretty easy to keep myself occupied for the 2 hours before I went on the tour. In the airport they have nature trails, orchid gardens, butterfly gardens, cinemas, swimming pool, entertainment stations and free internet access to name a few. There is even a slide,
but if you're wanting to have a go keep in mind you have to clear immigration to do it, which as in any airport, can take quite a while.
I set off for the tour, we were taken to passport control so we could leave the airport and officially enter the country, we boarded a bus and headed to downtown Singapore. On the drive in, it was pretty built up with large apartment blocks and office buildings. After around 30 minutes, we got to the central business district and hopped off to bus for a walk round for 20 minutes. A quick whiz round taking a few pictures, it was back to the bus for a quick drive to gardens by the bay on the opposite side of the city. This is a place, I really wish I could've spent more time. There were large gardens to walk round and a few sculptures etc. If i'd had more time, I would've liked to have gone inside and take a look round, it looked amazing. As time was very limited, I took a few photos and got back on the bus to head back to the airport.
I took
the sky train to terminal 3 where I was to leave from and spent the next 3 hours wandering about the butterfly garden and drinking loads of coffee! I boarded the flight and set off on a 14 hour flight back to London.
The flight was really bumpy in parts which never goes down well with me, but, I did have 2 seats to myself so made myself comfortable and watched a few films. After landing in London and then getting the train back north, I finally made it home and made a brew!
All in all, I've had a fantastic time and had so many new experiences. From the moment I landed in Malaysian Borneo to the moment I left I absolutely loved it! Having done and seen so much, I still realise, I could go back for another 2 weeks and have a completely different holiday doing all the things I didn't manage to get to. I've been asked twice what was the best bit of my holiday and I honestly couldn't say, each little bit was amazing in some way and right now, I'm so glad I bit the bullet and decided to go. If you're considering going, my advice to you would be to do it! The people I met were so friendly and the experiences open to you are quite simply awesome!
So that's the end of my blog for Malaysian Borneo, I hoped you enjoyed reading about my adventures... Now, time to plane the next one! Thanks for reading!
