Singapore was originally 500 square km but now it occupies a land area of 720 square km. Someone is real estate said buy now they are not making any more land, well in Singapore they do! And they have been doing it for years. Chinatown was once a swampy slum and now it’s a kilometre or so from the sea front (Marina Bay Sands stands between Chinatown and the sea) and it’s now longer a slum as you can’t live there. It’s now restaurants and office space only. Some say the ‘spirit’ has also gone but there’s still a lot of atmosphere in the precinct. That’s information gleaned from our walking tour with a little extrapolation from me.

I won’t regurgitate facts and figures about pavement width, building frontage, temple gods etc as it’s a bit of a case that you had to be there. I’ll even put away the dad jokes of which there were a few! But I’ve included a few happy snappies.

The final couple of photos are from our meander to another section of Chinatown where we had a few satays and again some pretty good juice. Back on the subway, the MRT, relatively early so that we are ready for the Little India walking tour tomorrow.

That’s after breakfast which is quite a task here. We’ve come across some impressive breakfast over the last 2 months, this is impressive in its its scope and scale. Unbelievably it doesn’t have muesli! It only has 2 or 3 cereals but it has rice porridge, oat porridge chips (real chips), roasted veggies, 2 or 3 curries, meats, cheese, juices, eggs of all types (and 2 chefs preparing them to order), salads and the range of breads and pastries that we have come to expect. On our way out we saw a whole new section so the range may even expand. The hotel services breakfast from 6 until 11 although it was winding down at about 10:30 but this place has hundreds of rooms so it really is a big deal here.

Again that’s it for a while. See you tomorrow.
