The landscape and flora and fauna in the Northern region of the Philippines is sure something. Some say the rice terraces are the 8th wonder of the world, well they are spectacular that is for sure. The thousands of years of work and planning that went into building these mountain side terraces dose not go unnoticed. I gazed in awe and wonder for hours after arriving, a photo could never do this beautiful land justice. I spent a few days hanging out in Manila after arriving back from Donsol, did a little partying and got to spend some time with my girl Peaches. We even got matching tattoos!! Well they were henna so they only last a couple weeks, he he. The same night we went out dancing and partying, witnessed a bottle throwing fight and ... read more

Hey all just got to the Philippines Saturday safe and well. Plane ride was hell, sat next to the fattest man on board for 15 hours from LA to Hong Kong. Saturday night was a good time we all went out and hit up a few bars met a lot of cool people. We went to this place called the Hobbit House that had 30 midgets working and didn't hire normal size folk. Right now were in Manila and we have been staying at a hotel called Malate Pensionne, its really neat and everything is real antique in the hotel. This city is so wild. Everyone tries to sell you stuff like fake rolex and little kids beg for money. I have never been anywhere that is so wild in my life. Life here is so ... read more

Home sweet…home? Well, I suppose I am no longer homeless. I have finally found an apartment in the heart of Bangkok’s commercial district at the footsteps of some of the world’s finest shopping centers with shanty towns crammed between. On my 300-meter walk home from the Skytrain I encounter anything from discount portable DVD players for sale, to miniature Buddhist temples, multiple 7-11 shops and five-ton elephants strolling down the sidewalk. It’s the chaotic melting pot of East meets West and old meets news. And it’s home! No sooner did I move into my new home, however, did I take off for the homeland: the Philippines. It was definitely nice to be somewhere that I know the language. My mom was visiting Thailand before heading to the Philippines again so I decided to hop on over ... read more

Ahhhh…. So where was I, Boracay I believe. Well, Boracay is the most popular tourist destination in all of the Philippines; to me that makes it so much less desirable but I had to go. My primary reason of going was to go to the immigration department there, which turned out to be a desk in the tourist information center, for a quick and easy visa extension. Yes the beaches were beautiful, white sand and clean water (in some areas), but completely overpopulated with tourists. I’d say Koreans and Pilipino were the majority of the population coming for a quick activity filled vacation with the whole family. There were many things to do from Para sailing to diving and everything in between, now if you could afford to do all these things it would be ... read more

The Philippines is such an amazing country because it has so much to offer. We went from lounging on incredible beaches to hiking among lush green mountains. Next stops on our trip: Cebu, Manila, Banaue, and then out of Manila. Like the first half of our trip, the adventure never stops. Cebu We left Bohol early to get into Cebu at a decent hour so we could sightsee around town. We found Magellan's cross. On Magellan's trek around the world he was stopped dead in his tracks (literally) in the Philippines so he himself did not make it all the way around the world (let's hope that Ryan and Misha's world adventure doesn't end the same way). He got in a brawl with some of the locals. Magellan thought he was all high and mighty coming ... read more

Hello again! Found a cheap(ish) internet cafe with a connection that stays flowing for more than 2 minutes at a time and thought I'd make the most of it! As much as we love the Philippines, travelling around isn't very easy as most roads are dirt tracks and most sea routes seem to be cancelled and changed at a moments notice or simply non-existent. This has meant going back to the past visited destinations again and again in order to move on in what should be a straight line! Here's what we've been up to........... Puerto Princessa From Dumaguette (where I finished the last journal entry) we took a boat to Cebu (already been there once) and a flight onto Puerto Princesa. We always choose the budget fare which means that overnight ferry's consist of rows ... read more

Of all the beautiful places that I have visited, Palawan is the place that is closest to my heart. The fresh breeze, the fine white sands of its beaches, the abundant marine life, and of course the warmth of the people - these are just but a few reasons why I couldn’t get enough of this wonderful place. This year, Culion, Jericho’s birthplace, is celebrating its Centennial Year. When we’ve learned that Nanay & Tita Malyn will be going home to join with the celebrations, we were ecstatic enough that I’ve immediately purchased our online Super Ferry tickets. We couldn’t afford to miss this momentous commemoration of the town’s founding year. Super Ferry has regular trips to Palawan every week. The ferry leaves at Manila on Friday, 8pm and arrives at Coron, Palawan after 12 hours. ... read more

First things first: Okay, for everyone that is about to read this, and can't figure out why I am only now posting my second blog of the Philippines, my apologies... but it took longer than thought to get the pictures from the second half of our trip. But, better late than never! So... with that being said, let me tell you about my adventures in the northern half of the Philippines! DAY 7: (This is where I left off in my previous blog entitled "Philippines: PART 1.) Wanting to make the most of our extra day in Manila, Casey and I woke up rather early and decided to check ourselves into a fabulous spa where we then treated ourselves to pedicures and facials, before spending a leisurely afternoon shopping. That night we treated ourselves yet again ... read more

Asia » Philippines » Mountain Province » Sagada May 5th 2006

I fell in love with Sagada. That is a lot since I went to Sagada not expecting much. I did not come to be impressed, but very impressed I became... March 23, 2006 We went to Autobus at around 9:30pm. The fare costs P462/pax one-way to Banawe. At around 10:15pm, the bus left the station. The route we took was different from what I had in mind. Instead of passing NLEX, we went on a different detour. I am not very sure of the towns we passed because aside from being dark, I was being lulled to sleep. Later on, I discovered we passed Nueva Vizcaya, Bayombong, Solano and Bambang. After 3 stop-overs, we reached Banawe at 7am. At the Banawe station, there were several locals offering rides going to Bontoc and some tricycles offer rides up ... read more

Asia » Philippines » Batangas May 3rd 2006

This trip technically does not count as one of my travels because I've been to Batangas and Tagaytay a countless number of times. However, this trip has been so significant for me so here goes... They say travel helps cure a broken heart. This is the story of three broken hearts (in different stages of recovery and varying degrees of manic-depression) and a weekend of Fs -- “fetted shets” (fitted sheets), freeloading, fun fun fun, and fabulous friends). A and Cat, this is for you! For broken-hearted girls, there is nothing worse than long weekends. Nothing -- except long weekends which you forgot to make plans for because you were busy crying your eyes out. So there I was last Thursday, panicking, because I totally forgot about the coming Labor Day weekend. I wanted to hit ... read more
