Hey you knuckleheads. Right now Im in Cebu, aka grimey as all hell. This place is definitely not poetic in any sense of the word. It is certainly a contrast to the two islands we visited before coming here. We just got here from Malipasqua which was pretty cool. That island is starting to become westernized by the day. We stayed there so we could contrast the effect of tourism on the island compared to Boracay which we will be going to in a few days. Last night we went to a disco on the island and everyone had a really good time. Despite all the good times I have been writing about, trust me when I say that this place is not easy at all. The smallest things I have been missing a lot. For ... read more

Well I guess this is it for me in the Philippines and though my time here was very much enjoyed I am happy to be moving on. I guess I’m a little tired (going on 2 months), it is really a lot of work to travel here, and doing it solo doesn’t make it any easier. It’s not that you can’t get to where you want it’s just the route that must be taken can be long and exhausting. I’m stoked that I will be able to jump on a bus for a couple hours and arrive in a new destination, easy as that. The last place I had really wanted to see before I left was Palawan, it is a long narrow island in the west of the Philippines, and said to be the ... read more

Hello everyone who reads this. If you got a surprise email telling you that this had been updated that is because I found out how to subscribe you en-mass from my outlook contacts list. I have now been in the Philippines for 2 months, that’s a month longer than I have ever spent in a foreign country (unless you count Scotland!). This blog entry is not on one subject just a hotch potch of things I have been doing and some odd thoughts. Being based in one place I have not actually seen much of the Philippines yet. However it is very rewarding to start to really understand the local culture and the way people live. Also makes me realise how little of that you see as a normal tourist. Hey Joe! As a white man ... read more

May 18: I'm in the office thinking, today it will be a long and tiring day. We will be going to Sorsogon to see the gentle giant of Donsol... the Whale shark. The plans of leaving early did not push through because my cousin and I have important things to do at work. We ended up leaving late in the afternoon. To save time we decided to meet in Lucena city since my cousin will be coming from Pangasinan (they have an exhibit there). We leave Cavite at around 4:00pm, leaving my youngest son, James to my mother in law. I have doubts if I can make it until Goa, our first destination (Goa is 7-8hrs travel from Manila). I made quick stop in Petron gasoline station in south super hi-way to have gasoline and to ... read more

Tagaytay, Philippines May 21, 2006 (Sunday) I have been to Tagaytay many times already with my friends but this time its different. I am with friends but a new set of friends and we have just established our group. Our first stop, South of Manila, Tagaytay. We left Manila at around 9:00 AM and got to Tagaytay at around 10:45 AM. We first visited the Pink Sisters Chapel and of course, it won’t be complete if you won’t make your lists of petitions. Then, we had lunch at one of the fastfood in the area “Greenwich”, heheheh. Then we were off to Picnic Grove, its one of the nicest play and if you are looking for a place to have your picnic, this is the place. It won’t be complete if you won’t take a picture ... read more

Wow so much has happened since the last time I wrote. The last time we talked I believe I told you about the rice terraces and trekking through them. Well the next day we went back to the terraces except about an hour from the terraces we first visited. We went deep into the mountains and hiked a very strenuous path to get to a lodge where we spent the night. Our tour guide's name was Elvis. Mom I know youd like that. At night in the lodge we sang a bunch of American songs while Elvis played the guitar. This was so cool, but Elvis didn't know a single Elvis song. He knew almost every other song ever produced though. The following day we took a crazy downhill hike to the waterfall. Let me tell ... read more

Sup peoples. Right now I am in Banaue where the 8th wonder of the world exists; the rice terraces. These terraces are so amazing. Yesterday we walked all through them hiking the whole way. We got all dirty and disgusting but it was simply breathetaking. Dont worry I have plenty of pictures but they certainly do not do it justice. The native people who farm and live in the rice terraces known as the Ifugao use to be head hunters within the last 100 years, but the missionaries came and tought them to settle disputes through trade. It is amazing to see how these people live. To even access the terraces that are deep into the mountains you have to walk along the edges which are less than a foot wide. This was extremely dangerous and ... read more

What up all.. Im back in Manila for about an hour and I only have few minutes to write this. Im in an internet cafe with a bunch of Manila geeks. All these kids are gaming all around me like a bunch of dorks. Anyway I am about to go on a 9 hour overnight bus ride to see some rice terraces. Today we hiked up a volcano that is still active and blew its top in 1999. That was surreal. The night before we hit up a club and saw a real tight band with some local guys we met in Laguna Province which is just south of Manila. Me and my buddy Dan found some of these guys when we were wandering around lookin for something to do. We bought beer at this little ... read more
