Trip to Palawan Asia » Philippines » Palawan » Busuanga By Sarah The TravelerMay 3rd 2006Me, my aunt, my uncle and 2 of my cousins went to Busuanga, Palawan from Manila. Plane trip is about an hour. We stayed at Dive Link for 4 days and 3 nights. Busuanga, Palawan is a pretty laid back place. You can dive, island hop, kayak, swim, snorkle. That's some of the things you can do there.... read more

St. Paul's Subterranean River National Park in Puerto Princesa, Palawan certainly deserves to count among the 7 wonders of the world. My friends and I thought it's about time we visit this famous underground river which has been declared a UNESCO Heritage Site , and check out the many other attractions of this southern part of Palawan (the northern part deserves a separate blog!). We were pleasantly surprised to find many more wonders in Puerto Princesa. And this is how our adventure went. St. Paul's Underground River It took us a couple of hours to reach the place. That's over land. Next step is to board a boat passing limestone cliffs to reach the entrance to the underground river. The boat ride was another 30 minutes. When we got off the boat, we found a path ... read more

The traffic noise is deafening, yet I find myself crouched behind the counter in the lobby of my door-less hotel-come-brothel, a finger in one ear and a phone to the other, struggling to conduct an interview with my future boss in Korea. Luckily neither of us can really understand the other in the din, so it is decided the best thing for me to do is write an essay on 'The teaching of English as a foreign language in Korea'. During my 45 minute flight from Cebu to Palawan the following morning, I eat my airplane snack, drink my coffee and put the finishing touches to my essay. I know nothing whatsoever about teaching …or Korea for that matter. So after completing my three page plagiarized master piece, I feel pretty pleased for myself. I'd arrived ... read more

Back in Puerto Princessa after spending 11 days on this island of Palawan. It is not known as the last frontier for nothing! We left Puerto early on the 2nd March to catch a jeepney to Port Barton. Trying to find out what time the jeepney left was a little tricky, generally the locals told us it could leave anywhere between 8 and 10am. So we left our pensionne early to make sure we didn't miss it, took a tricycle ride 20 minutes out of town to the bus terminal and found our jeepney. It only left at ten so we had to while away two hours in the dusty parking lot. At least we provided some entertainment for the locals. When we finally left, the jeepney was piled high with boxes, crates, chickens, sacks of ... read more

It's another place off my list of places to go before I die. And a new one on my list of places with a soul. After years of pining, I finally saw the famous El Nido last week. Taking the plane from Manila, we arrived at Puerto Princesa in the morning of Tuesday, February 21. After breakfast and meeting up with some friends I met during my previous trip to Puerto Princesa, we headed off to El Nido. El Nido is about 7 hours away from Puerto Princesa (including pitstops). The roads from Puerto to Roxas (2 hours away) were very good but a few miles off Roxas and our nightmare begins. Dusty, unpaved roads which become unpassable during the rainy season made up more than half the trip to El Nido. We pass by Taytay ... read more

El Nido, Philippines Jan 24-Feb1, 2006 Temp: 25C-32C Snow Cover: negative My ‘round the world trip has come to an end. Before I lay out my conclusive thoughts, I will write a little about the Philippines which to say the least has been a very pleasant surprise. Again, here is a brief index to this, my last blog entry: 1) FILIPINO ADVENTURE 2) OVERALL TRIP THOUGHTS 3) SHAMELESS SELF PROMOTION 4) TRIP STATISTICS (North Americans are addicted to statistics… these, I presume you will find interesting) 1) FILIPINO ADVENTURE I flew into Manila via Hong Kong on January 23rd. I was expecting to find my pre-arranged hostel and hunker down for the night before heading to El Nido (north Palawan islands) early the next morning. After accepting an offer from the taxi driver, I found myself ... read more
