You know you're going to a good restaurant when there's a sign like this out the front and and armed guard to enforce the regulations In case you can't read it "Please deposit your firearms here" Side not to self - as nice as it can be at some places - if I ever have deep fried pork hocks again - it'll probably be too soon... read more

Another day of shopping for the girls so no pics as such. An interesting note on the security guards at the shopping mall; as you might expect the banks had their own security guards, but interestingly enough, SO DO THE COFFEE SHOPS. Perhaps a precaution against the caffeine uprising. Also had a massage yesterday - 1hrs foot massage and 1 hr full body massage for a little over $25. This include full use of all the other facilities (spa sauna etc). Even though this was fully legit, even here the people are looking for extended opportunities. Well it's yet ANOTHER day of shopping today after brekkie (joy oh joy). I think I'm getting a Barong Tagalog (traditional male formal shirt) for the re-wedding. Think I'll pass on brekkie today, simply find rice, deep fried chicken, roast ... read more

We were just having a great time singing Karaoke last Friday. A few of my colleagues and I were celebrating the third year since we all met at the programming boot camp, and I was also anticipating the arrival of my baby nephew from the province the next day. It was a rainy week but I was oblivious of any storm coming. My older brother w/ his family, an aunt w/ my little cousin, and another cousin w/ her family arrived on a plane on Saturday morning telling us about a pretty bad turbulence and swore that they felt their plane fall a few feet down when they were still on flight. One of my cousins even said that she thought she was gonna die that day. Since I stayed very late the previous night, I ... read more

Our flight to Singapore went by very quickly and we landed at Singapore Airport which is ridiculously big and slick, complete with orchid gardens, koi carp ponds and free internet and massage chairs. Good news as we'll be spending quite a lot of time there over the coming months! We flew on to Manila on a very full plane in which we were seemingly the only non-Filipino people. We caught a taxi from the airport and during the ride got our first impressions of Manila: just as manic as we had expected - congested traffic, mad driving, neon lights and sweltering heat! The hotel immediately felt like a little oasis with friendly staff and a big air conditioned room. We started the next day with a big buffet breakfast that was a bizzare mixture of East ... read more

Hello all. I am in the Philippines now and it is beautiful here as well. Although the weather hasn't been the greatest since we got here. Cloudy and a little bit cold. (I know 65 isn't cold to most of you in the states, but it seems kind of chilly to me now.) The countryside is still pretty amazing. I am in Luzon, which is the "main" island of the Philippines. Manila is there and I believe that it is second only to Mindinao in size. We shacked up in Malate for a night and then walked around Manila a little bit. It really isn't that great to look at, a little dirty and cramped, but it has its highlights. The food in Manila is really Americanized, which is good for my homesick tummy. We were ... read more

WARNING!! You will notice that there some grammar, tense and spellings that are incorrect, those were intentional for your enjoynment. thanks , rex Hi. Here's some photos, stories and advice from our trip to the Philippines. It was really a humbly experienced going back to the Philippines. To have a church family there was the best part of our trip. And to see how solid the brotherhood of the barkadas in Happy Valley Homes1, it really showed, no matter how long or far you've been, it still the same walk, laughter, jokes and kindness to each other. Once again, I'm thankful for Kuya dann and Ate Rose for treating us like their own brother and sisters. My wife Aileen was very impress with their generosities and hospitalities. Man, if I lived here, I would be a little piglet in no time. The food here is so fatty, fried, and sugary. The major cause of death is diabetes and heart disease. And I look around and everyone is partaking in it. Depending on genetics, people seem to be really thin here...or not. But no one is obese like in the US. But I sure would be if I lived here. With the sun and the fatty food, I would soon become a crispy pata - fried up & fatty. We had a short lunch in the cafeteria. Even cafeteria food here is better than the Wilmington cafeteria. I had a fresh mango shake, two caramelized bananas, and pancit, which is glass noodled with fish cake and other random stuff. Filling. I had also had ... read more
