From Malapascua I decided to head down to Bohol Island, just east of Cebu Island. In the place I was staying at (Purple Snapper), I had met a French woman, Stephanie, also a dive instructor and she was also going to Bohol, so we decided to go together to share costs. She was good company, had a lot of stories, plus she was an excellent dive buddy to be traveling with. We woke up really early in the morning and went to the beach to get a boat that would take us to Maya (town at the very north of Cebu Island). While we waited in the beach, we were constantly harrased by a pack of stray dogs, which was really annoying. The boat ride takes about 30 minutes and from Maya we had to take ... read more

Im sure I saw somewhere on a poster that Bohol is the 12th largest island in the Philippines. I could quite easily google it right now to confirm my thoughts but where would all the fun be in that? The point of this thought is that I was expecting the drive back across Bohol from Anda, via the chocolate hills and the Tarsier sanctuary, to be quite a long one – considering it took the local bus 3 hours to cover the same distance in a straight line. To make sure our asses were covered we arranged to do this trip back to Tagbilaran the day before our flight. This was not needed (tip 1). If you want to arrange to go and visit the highly popular attractions of the Bohol interior then I would probably ... read more

For the second week of our holiday we decided to head over to Bohol as we have never experienced The Visayas. We were craving a bit of hard travel and a destination that was not too common so we settled on Anda at the far East of the Island. From El Nido this is how the travel went: Minibus to Puerto Princesa (5 hours) – Flight to Cebu (1 hour) – Tricycle to Port – Boat to Tagbilaran (2 hours) – Tricycle to local bus station – local bus to Anda (3.5 hours). I was quite impressed with the local bus service that we caught across the length of Bohol. It was relatively comfortable and it was amazingly cheap (100PHP each). There is not much information on Anda in the lonely planet guide and I was ... read more

Our time on the island of Bohol, the 10thlargest in the Philippines, was short but ever so sweet and we had a fantastic adventure filled day which will stay with us for a long time. We had a bit of a drama getting here though…First the Banka boat, which was to take us from Malapascua back to Maya on the mainland, was moored about 100 metres away from the shore, so instead of getting straight on it, we had to pile into a small rowing boat with 10 other people to get to it first, and we had to pay extra for the privilege. Then everyone had to half climb/jump over on to the boat, then luggage was passed up, so all this took a while. When we eventually reached Maya, the boat docked again about ... read more

After five wonderful days on the Island of Malapascua, it was time to carry on the journey to a new locale. Continuing our pursuit of rest, relaxation and the ultimate tan, we headed to Bohol and the Peacock Garden Resort. Yes, our plan required that we stay the course and not overextend ourselves in order to achieve our goal of total relaxation and enjoy a bit of opulence. Gritty stuff, but we have the drive to succeed. We climbed aboard a small skiff and headed out a few hundred yards to a larger craft which took us to Maya on Cebu, then a three hour ride to Cebu City to catch the ferry to Tagbilaran City, Bohol. Getting around the Philippines takes time and patience as there are no direct routes given the 7000 or so ... read more

Days 67 – 70 (Mon 12th –Thurs 15thNov) So after 3 days on Bohol island I moved to Panglao island. An off shoot from Bohol and very close to Tagbilaran where the main ferry and only airport on Bohol lies. I moved to Alona Beach on Panglao which is an awesome beach resort. I moved here mainly to take my PADI open water diving course. I’d done a bit of research about the course and where was best to take it in the Philippines and heard here was good for it as they had close and local reefs so that’s the reason I came. My course ran from Monday to Thursday lunch time. I did theory and videos etc on the Monday. I was due to do a confined water session in the pool but my ... read more

Day 59 (Sun 4thNov) Woke up early again, starting to become a bit of a habit. Was showered and fed and out the door by 8. Walked to the bus stop where I was told there were minivans going to Baguio City, from there I could go up the west coast to Vigan. Hopped on the minivan, paid and waited to leave Banaue. Once the minivan was filled we left. I’d been told it was 6 to 6 ½ hours on good roads. Funny that as it ended up being nearer 8 and the road was terrifying. It seems there’s a huge mountain range in between where I was going from and too. The road was very windy and had horrible drops off the side, at some points off both sides. The drops in areas were ... read more

February 12, 2009 Start of our New Adventure Rish and I arrived at the airport around 7:30 am, too early for our 9:45 am flight .We had our “pictorial thing” and window shopping while waiting (I should brought a book with me so that I won’t get bored). We enjoyed our flight; new plane and the flight attendants were accommodating. We arrived at Mactan airport around 10:45 am and went directly to Supercat Ferry pier. We waited for almost two hours for our trip to BOHOL (our scheduled trip is 12:30pm). We arrived at Tagbilaran pier around 2:15 pm and was greeted by Ms. Lilet, our tour guide. She was the one who arranged our Bohol itinerary. We arrived at Dumaluan Beach Resort around 2:45pm. After we checked ... read more

From when I went on board the ferry to Bohol, until I reluctantly departed three days later, two older women made my trip memorable in very different ways. Paulette recounted her Filipino adventures and Elpedia lovingly tended her orchids. They were like two bookends to my time in Bohol despite their very different lives. OK, back to the beginning - the sailing to Bohol from Siquijor Island was wonderful! I arrived at the dock in plenty of time and boarded early so I was able to get a seat on a wooden bench and settle down to journaling. The next thing I heard was a voice above me, ”Well, you certainly don’t waste your time!” I raised my head slowly and my eyes followed two long, tanned legs, then shorts, up to the smiling face of ... read more

Bohol is the main island of Bohol Province together with 75 minor surrounding islands. The island lies southeast from Cebu Island and southwest of Leyte Island inCentral Visayas region. This oval-shaped island is the tenth largest of the Philippine archipelago. Another gem of the Visayas, Bohol is a tropical haven of natural beauty. The coastline of the island is skimmed by gentle coves and white sand beaches. Bohol is not as internationally famous as nearby Boracay, but is well-known locally as a paradise for divers and snorkelers. Dolphin watching and whale watching tours are popular with both residents and visiting tourists. The best season is from March to June, but dolphins can be seen year-round. In addition to white sand beaches and dive spots, Bohol is famous among others, for its Chocolate Hills, the Tarsier – ... read more
