Day 3 of our Philippines Trip was spent on a floating cabin in Matabungkay (Batangas). We got the floating cabin for free 'coz the father of a friend of mine is friends with the owner. We ate, joked around, laughed, teased each other, swam...then ate again....this is as fun as it gets. Highlights: 1) Someone puts a fish in my cousin's swimsuit 2) Dared to eat raw fish 3) Freed "Lapu-lapu", the fish that Francis wants to eat that's still alive. 4) Poured buckets of water with each other 5) Pushed each other into the sea " A Picture is worth a thousand words" - The photos will fill-in the rest..... Cheers !... read more

Just posting some pics of my favorite get-away in Batangas - La Luz Resort in San Juan, Batangas. As the beach is unbelievably clean and the drive relatively easy (3 hours from Manila), this is where we come to when we need some sun on our skin :) We just call for day trip reservations, pack our swimsuits and go. For P650/pax, we get a day of R&R, complete with buffet lunch and merienda, a huge cabana, clean facilities, beach-front parasoles, chillout music and of course, views of the resort's hunky owner Rommel Marasigan hehe. For more info on La Luz, check out their website here: http://www.laluzresort.com/ ... read more

boiled eggs remind me of long bus trips and the odor of a foul vomit. and more. when i was young and life was less harder then, father and i usually went to neighboring towns either to sell our stuff or replenish the stocks. we were running a dry goods business. this was in the late eighties when the local retail industry for dry goods was still strong. in my young half-educated age, i knew we were doing well. i and my sister jesse got to have new matching dresses every two weeks or so. and matching pair of shoes for them. i would realized later, long after the aftermath of the bankruptcy was felt, that my younger siblings did not have such kind of luxury. father has this serious obsession with cleanliness and hygiene. i ... read more

This trip technically does not count as one of my travels because I've been to Batangas and Tagaytay a countless number of times. However, this trip has been so significant for me so here goes... They say travel helps cure a broken heart. This is the story of three broken hearts (in different stages of recovery and varying degrees of manic-depression) and a weekend of Fs -- “fetted shets” (fitted sheets), freeloading, fun fun fun, and fabulous friends). A and Cat, this is for you! For broken-hearted girls, there is nothing worse than long weekends. Nothing -- except long weekends which you forgot to make plans for because you were busy crying your eyes out. So there I was last Thursday, panicking, because I totally forgot about the coming Labor Day weekend. I wanted to hit ... read more

Being the adult that I supposedly am and because I am earning my own dough, I thought it would be nice to treat my folks, Inang and sisters for a day at the beach. I wanted a hassle free resort wherein the only thing we needed to do was get to the place. Family outings can sometimes be too tiring. I mean, the preparation before the trip is a lot of work! You have to worry whose going to bring this and that, what kind of food to bring, where to cook it and mostly whose going to be responsible enough to actually do the task. Since I'm the one who’s doing the invites, I didn't want to be bothered by such details. I wanted to relax... I wanted everybody to relax! So I got on ... read more

This year's company summer outing was at Virgin Beach Resort. It was a two and a half hour bus convoy from Makati to San Juan, Batangas. There is not much to write about this beach, actually. The pictures from their website looked prettier than expected. It was close to a sugar-fine brownish-white sand beach nonetheless. The food provided by the resort was bad. Big time. Good thing we had fun with our game ala 'Amazing Race'. We were divided into 6 teams and I was tasked to swim from the shore of the beach to the man on a kayak to get our next clue. My male teammate had cramps when we reached the kayak so I left him and I swam as fast as I could back to the shore! As soon as I got ... read more

We hired a van for 2500 Php from Mandaluyong crossing to Planet Dive in Mabini, Batangas. The driver took us to a different route compared to the map I downloaded from Planet Dive's website. We got into the resort at 8am (we left Mandaluyong City at 5:30am) safely anyway so it was okay. It was just funny that the driver hasn't stopped complaining about the rough road till we got into our destination. Saddle Point Off we go to Saddle Point. This is my first dive for the weekend. It has been months since I last went diving so I probably would find myself grappling with my gears a bit. This boat dive had 7 other divers with Joey Fullon as our dive master. I descended the last because I found it difficult to equalize on ... read more

Waking up at around 4am in the morning was a major pain in the bum. After all, we were up, whole day and night frolicking the highlands of Tagaytay. Plus, it's so frigging cold! It's so nice to sleep, cuddled up inside a warm blanket and dream in a lucid state. But, we couldn't. We needed to get up so we can hike Taal Volcano before we encounter the morning heat of the sun. Another thing was that our reservation at the Taal Lake Yacht Club (TLYC) for our boat and guide was at 6am. By 5am, we checked out of the inn and started deciphering our map to Talisay, Batangas. Before we reached Picnic Grove, we saw a sign leading to Talisay. Along with it were a couple or more men asking us if we ... read more

It has been my long-time dream to be a certified diver. This dream has been lingering in my mind since my intro dive with my boss in Guam in 2002. Incidentally, an officemate of mine told me she’s about to take her scuba class so she introduced me to her dive instructor Dencio of Dive Buddies. I got the chance to attend two of his orientations. That was last year, though. It was not till September this year when I finally signed up. For real! From Makati, my scuba classmates and I drove two hours south to Planet Dive, Mabini, Batangas. The road was not a smooth one. Actually, we feel like we were driving thru mountains that would lead us to Baguio! The dirt roads were steep. I just find it weird to be driving ... read more

Decided to chill-out with some friends at the beach -- a friend generously brings us to Terrazas de Punta Fuego, an exclusive haven south of Manila. After a leisurely two-hour drive from Manila, we arrived at Terrazas and plunked our butts at one of the pavilions facing the beach. Had lunch at the resto and basically just goofed around the place. Going home, we stopped by Bag of Beans at Tagaytay for the customary pies and raisin bread then off to a fantastic dinner at Sanctuario. What a blast! ... read more
